URL problem in "my favorites" July 10, 2009 11:49 AM   Subscribe

There's a bug in the links on the MetaTalk "my favorites" tab.

On the my favorites tab of MetaTalk, the date/time link to all the favorited threads (for example, "Jul-7-09 at 9:16 PM") is messed up. The first part of the URL goes to http://metatalk.metafilter.com.metafilter.com.

Thanks, should be working now.

Can I mention here that languagehat's book has been released before y'all prumphaensn's close the thread? I'm out of MetaTalk posts this week (and was called a weirdo because of that [they shoulda read the book!]).

(Thanks cjorgensen. LH's blog entry here.)

(D'OH see this is why they don't let me touch the car, I'd bork the links. The correct link to LH's blog entry here.)

pb, I don't know if this is related or not, but it seems like the "xx new comments" link in MetaFilter threads is (always? often? I can't tell) taking me to the bottom of threads, instead of to the xxth thread.

"xxth comment", of course, where "xx" is the number where the new comments start in the thread.

yhbc, not related at all. hmm, I can't duplicate that here, everything looks ok with new comment links. Take a look at the "xx new comments" URL and note the commentID (at the end of the url, like so: [link url]#[commentID]). And then go into the thread and note the commentID of the last comment on the page. (Found by hovering over the time in the byline.) And count the number of comments in between, if any. That's a quick way to tell if the "new comments" link is linking to the correct comment or last comment.

Is this where I mention that the "recent favorites" tab now shows only only one name, followed by a series of commas which vary in number where it says "recently by"?

I used my metatalk to bitch about a font. I had no idea we only got one a week. Two years I;ve been here. Posted in meta whenever I felt like it. The Languagehat was the first time I wanted to post and couldn't.

So thanks for sneaking it in, not_on_display. (And by sneak I mean post in a thread that I am surprised is still open, but cool!).

I know I'll be buying one, but only if languagehat send me the foreword in email, otherwise I'll track down a UK version.

No, it's definitely taking me to the last comment. This link was what I just received when I looked at the same-sex marriage thread - the recent comments view told me there were 134 comments, 19 new, and the link was to the "19 new" - but I got sent right to the bottom of the page. For what it's worth, I hadn't visited that thread before checking the link out.

Windows XP, IE8.

Also - this is my second attempt at reporting this - the first time, I got a jrun time-out error.

Yep - the "xx new" link is taking me to the last comment on the page, all right - but only in MetaFilter, not in MetaTalk.

It sounds like the link was correct but the browser took you to the bottom of the page instead of the linked comment. In that case I'm not sure what we can do from this end. There's no functional difference between the way comments are linked in MetaFilter vs. MetaTalk. I'm stumped at the moment but I'll give it some thought.
