I'm trying to MeFize my life, but I need some help. I've found color codes for the backgrounds of each subsite, but I cannot find the color code for the lovely gold-esque color that denotes a link. Help?
Isn't the word "metastasize"?

If you use firefox, colorzilla is an add-on eyedropper tool that can be handy.

To continue the derail, MeasureIt is a good screen ruler add-on, although that one's not as generally useful because different browsers &tc.

I refer to this color patch, and use the value #C4C601. Huh. I only just noticed the little "Warning: not a web safe color" icon in the color picker in Photosh Hold on. There's someone really pounding on the door. I'll be right back.

Yeah, are you trying to get some paint matching done for your house? blue for theliving room, green for the kitchen, and gray for the room where you lock the neighbors children up in?
The yellow is for the doors, I presume.

In OS X the included DigitalColor Meter (Applications/Utilities) will let you grab the RGB color code of whatever you're mousing over. Kind of handy.

I have idly considered repainting my office with mefi colors, as much as anything because the current color is really kind of a boring earth tone. But there's the problem of (1) getting colors that are acceptable close to the screen color and then (2) having to try and calibrate my monitors accordingly.

I've been on MetaFilter for four hours. It doesn't hurt, it's actually kind of pleasant. I know the warning label says to call my doctor, but the phone is way over there. Should I worry, or ignore the recommendations?

Like you night_owl, I too thought it'd be a good idea to Mefize my life.
I went by the handle John Stamos' Childhood Diary in those days. I started posting to the blue everyday about all the crazy shit that mefites go crazy about; recumbent bikes, bacon, lolcats. The favorites just started rolling in. In a matter of weeks, I was one of the Mefi elite, in the ranks right up there with your astro zombies, coldchefs and thepinksuperheroes.
Eventually, mathowie invited me up to the mefi compound. I got to see the admin panel--the admin panel that he keeps hidden from jessamyn, pb and cortex. We got wasted and for a laugh he asked how I'd like to try out the banhammer?
It was just a couple of SEO assholes at first, but eventually even self-linkers weren't enough to quench my ban-thirst. I started to ban perfectly good members of the community like it was nothing. The n00bs were the worst. One poor fucker got banned almost a dozen times. Hell of it was, he kept paying the $5. Those were mad times.
I've deleted that old account now and I lay low for the most part, but be careful what you ask for, night_owl. You might just get it.

I'm not sure why everyone doing anything on the web doesn't use Firebug (the extension for Firefox); it lets you right-click on any page element, say "Inspect Element", and see everything about that element (color, formatting, etc.).

Pronoiac : (4) "Make It Start."
I believe that to do this in-real-life requires a combination of hot peppers, peyote, and a precisely aimed blow to the head, all delivered in a very specific order.
I've heard that it can be very entertaining for a while, but the "Make it Stop" button takes too long to kick in.

Colorzilla isn't made completely redundant by Firebug. It lets you eyedrop colors within images without having to fire up a paint program, and also, of dubious value, the half-tones at the anti-aliased edges of text etc.
