How long do the posts on the 10th subsite stay open?

From here.
Will these threads be archived/accessible after Ten is retired?

I'm presuming we'll keep ten around forever.

He means open, not available. I bet it's the same as the meetup MeTa threads, which is.. er.. six months?
posted by Plutor at 7:18 AM on May 14, 2009

I have no idea! But six months would probably be the likely answer, yeah. Matt or pb would know for sure.

Go ahead. Try to say both ths in "tenth threads". You'll totally be able to say the "s" on the end without lisping, and you won't spit all over your keyboard. I promise.

I was led to believe there would be free booze here?

could any future archive of the celebrations be affectionately called the "10t"?

I don't even understand the motivation for this question.

We need to add it to Wolfram Alpha's database.

Seventh rule: The meetup threads go on as long as they have to.
posted by adipocere at 9:30 AM on May 14, 2009

I think the motivation is to get an entire site worth of 9622-ridiculousness. Which I entirely support. Oh, yes, speaking of which:

!!!!!FREE THE IMG TAG!!!!!
posted by kaibutsu at 9:33 AM on May 14, 2009

I don't even understand the motivation for this question.

Curiosity, pure and simple. It's on a separate page, maybe there are separate rules. Plus, since planning is beginning >2 months ahead of time, that would mean that - if the 10th site adheres to the six-month rule - each thread would, on average, have less after-party time to comment than a typical meetup thread.

Also, I want to be able to get the last word in on each anniversary thread.
posted by backseatpilot at 9:46 AM on May 14, 2009

Ten threads are open for comments for three months, that should be enough time to plan things. And you can always create a new thread at a location if you need to start up a discussion about something.

I'm not sure how long the site will be open for new threads. We'll archive everything at some point.

Yes! On the occasion of the 10th anniversary the IMG tag will be reinstated for ONE day.
What an online party that will be.

the aloha : could any future archive of the celebrations be affectionately called the "10t"?

Only if we make sure everyone that attends them brings some sort of identification.

And we should make sure that the bouncer knows this and is wearing a t-shirt that quickly and efficiently spells out the requirements to get in.

ID10t?

I, of course, get to nominate who the ID checkers/ shirt wearers are.

On the actual day of MeFi's 10th Anniversary, I will be in an aeroplane over the sea. That's kind of like being in a longboat. On wings.

Of course, I will not be able to post a picture of a drawing of a longboat with wings because I will not have internerd access. That might just make me cry.

Ah, but will you be a little boy in Spain?
posted by nasreddin at 3:23 PM on May 14, 2009

I'll be flying out of Spain, yeah. With pianos filled with flames.

The only thing that matters in all of this is that you - yes you - should be making plans for the New Orleans meetup, because it's going to be epic. Three days, not one, not two - but three whole days of meetups.

There's going to be giant robot dinosaurs, a circus of albino vampires, live nude alligator wrestling, an all-fish fixie bicycle flatland freestyle performance group, fire-sword dancing, a chocolate fountain the size of the Texas state capitol building, winged demon zombie monkeys, a life size butter sculpture of Mae West and I may even bring Garey Busey's cloned disembodied talking and drinking head in a jar.

loquacious--except for the gary busey head & the texas-sized chocolate fountain, i've got the rest covered. i know quintron & mc tracheotomy--they've got that nude robot dinosaur circus vampire alligator bicycle thing locked up. come to think of it, they might also have the original gary busey head.

This boat of which you speak, is it long? ... oh yes, I see, it is.

I still have to carve out some time to go through the video I shot of the Cambridge meetup a couple months ago; although it is missing grapefruitmoon's minilecture on the origins of the longboat, and it is missing the Plutor mini-interview, it does have plenty of good shots of the table, glasses of beer, people going blarblarblar, and The Great Big Mulp and the SheMulp aka +1 get interviewed outside.

The MeFi documentary will come out in Summer of 2027 at this rate!

No, I am not shooting a documentary. At least not now.

although it is missing grapefruitmoon's minilecture on the origins of the longboat,

PRAISE JESUS.

If there's one thing that the multitudes on the internet don't really need to know, it's how... enthusiastic... I get when I talk.

a glorious tale replete with online friendship, inside jokes, online bickering, ego oneupsmanship, seo spammer deletions, desperation pony requests, obscure references, and dance sequences needs to be told correctly no matter how long it takes.

not_on_display: "it is missing the Plutor mini-interview"

It should be noted that not_on_display ambushed me, O'Reilly-style, after I had had a bunch of beer and was putting on my coat to make the T. And then he started quizzing me about deprecated HTML tags and undocumented JavaScript 1.8 features. Said mini-interview went poorly. I'm pretty sure there was crying.
posted by Plutor at 10:40 AM on May 17, 2009

I think it went awesome because there was crying. Haven't you ever watched Barbara Walters?

My favorite question was, "Your mother once told you yoawr coding was for shit, Logan, when you wewre only eight years old. How did that affect you?"

Damn, I WISH I asked that.
