Mefi Meet Up at My Bloody Valentine Gig April 20, 2009 5:49 PM   Subscribe

Any Denver (area) MeFites going to see seminal indie, loud-as-hell shoegazers My Bloody Valentine on Friday (April 24th) at the Fillmore?

If so, care to expand it into an MBV-Mefi event? Drinks before / after for instance. And if not, when's the next Denver meet-up anyway?

God damn, I'm sorely tempted to go out and see this. I didn't think they were touring the US at all.

(According the caption of this first picture, you Denver MeFites are going to be pretty surprised at a change in the My Bloody Valentine personnel.)

They're still playing?

Not sure if this makes me feel too old or too young.

I don't get it. What were you on about? The caption says:

Excited fans waited for My Bloody Valentine to perform at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in Indio, Calif., Sunday. Paul McCartney delivered an epic set of Beatles classics at the event. (Mario Anzuoni/Reuters)

Coachella. My Bloody Valentine played. So did Paul McCartney. And lots of other people. Huh?

Eh, just a dumb joke...if you didn't know that much about the band and sorta squinted at the caption, it reads like My Bloody Valentine is McCartney's new band, backing him up as he played through a bunch of Beatles songs. Which would be awesome.

I'll admit that maybe this was one I should have left in the Preview window for a while before hitting Post Comment.

Oh yes they're still playing. Or have started playing again. And louder than ever it would appear. The Guardian lasted 10 minutes before bailing. Although at least they are giving out earplugs. However, just because they may be the loudest band in the world is neither here nor there: I just love MBV's music. One concert goer suggested sign language may be necessary for a few days afterwards.

boo_radley: it's a rare event, sir/madam: so have at it.

Dammit, how did I miss this? I don't think I can make it, unfortunately. Nails, I hope you will regale us with stories of this epic event at the next meetup, in sign language or otherwise.

Gah, I'd like to go to this, but I didn't hear about it sooner, and I can't really afford tickets at those prices. Hey, y'all let me know about the next meetup, eh? I've been avoiding you guys for too long.

We should have one soon.

I saw them in Santa Monica last year. You will leave deaf, shell-shocked, and grinning ear-to-ear. Make sure you have any important conversations BEFORE the show... and have fun :-)

Yeah, do take the free earplugs, we went in London last year and it was loud enough to dislodge my girlfriends kidney stone (the day before she was due for shockwave lithoscopy).

Awesome: Seminal indie, loud-as-hell, kidney-stone-dislodging shoegazers My Bloody Valentine. Fixed that for me.

Sorry you guys can't make it, lukemeister & koeselitz. We need to have a meet-up soon. It's been months, over a year for koeselitz perhaps.

Alright, I'm in for this. See you there. Brown hoodie, purple shirt, glasses. See you there!

Agh. FFS. I was there, man. I checked MeFi before I left... must have been minutes before you posted. What a shame. Awesome stuff anyway! Awesome. I was wearing glasses, jeans: no underwear :)

But too loud. I didn't use the earplugs, which I regret now. But you can't hear the music. All the tracks off Isn't Anything were great (of course) but... you had to mentally lay the vocals (such as they are) on top of the music. But awesome.
