Nanny O'Brien's is great an all, but it should be noted that our host who did so much to make that meetup fabulous no longer works there.

Yeah, I'm there no longer, but I still am pretty tight with most the staff. I'd be glad to get the back room reserved if desired.

peeedro: That sounds good to me. Apologies for not coordinating with you before posting.
But, like I said, we're open to suggestions on location. This is not my area of expertise, so I just went with the location I remembered being easy. Metro-convenient is all I ask.

Apologies aren't needed. I browse metatalk and read my mefimail on a pretty sporadic basis, so it's dumb chance that I saw this post.
Nanny's does have the advantage of being a block from the Red Line and a mostly unused back room with a big table that can be reserved; but before developing a consensus I'd wait for other people, especially Potomac Avenue to weigh in. He seems to have his fingers closer to the pulse of the DC nightlife scene than most and will probably have some good suggestions, especially the Blue/Orange Line places that will appeal to the NoVa mefites.
Off the top of my head, if pool/shuffleboard sounds like fun I've worked with the managers (thus have an inside track to reserving a space and securing specials) of three places: Continental (Rosslyn, Orange/Blue Line), Atomic Billiards (Cleveland Park, Red Line), and Bedrock Billiards (Adams Morgan, not so Metro friendly unless you are friends with a bicycle, the bus, valet parking, or are comfortable with a 15 minute walk from the train).
That said, I won't be able to attend. Unfortunately, I take my turn pushing The Wheel of Pain on Saturdays. But I'd still be happy to do what I can with my connections in thebar scene hospitality industry to make a great meet-up.

Don't think I can help set up specials, but the upstairs at Stetsons (~16th and U) at 7 on a Saturday could be pretty good. Shouldn't be crowded at all, so I don't imagine it would be necessary to pay to officially rent it out (though, I guess you'd have to be careful nobody else did). They've got a pool table, foosball table, and darts up there, plus a bunch of board games that you can borrow.
Location-wise, it's about half a mile from Dupont metro (red line), and the U St metro (green and yellow lines). (Not close, but not SUPER far from the blue or orange lines -- a bit over a mile walk from Farragut West).

Awesome! I got left with a distinctly positive impression of Nanny's the last time I attended a meetup there, but that's probably because Peedro snagged us free food, and we were waited on by a pirate.
Whereever we meet, I'm confident that ThePinkSuperHero's attendance will cause it to be covered by The New York Times again.

that nyt article is pretty amazing. They make it sound like 13,000 is a monumental number of posts, but its not really for a message boardy place like mefi. I have 50,000 on a vbulletin board I've been on for a few years.

Well that fell through but I do know of a good basement crustpunk show in Tacoma Park that day, so if you're looking for B.O....
Jokes. Anyway, I've never been to Nanny O'B's but it sounds fine to me...I know plenty of cool places but crowds of pretentious people probably aren't conducive to uncomplicated Meeting Up. Unless you guys want to come experience the best dive bar in the world, The Tune Inn, in which there is nothing to do but stare into the eyes of the animals and wonder how you got so lucky to be living in capital hill...

NoVa Mefite here, and I cast my vote for Nanny's. One of my favorite places in the district and haven't been there in forever. Tune Inn is cool, but only if we could commandeer, like, the whole sidewalk seating area. And Bedrock Billiards is fun for a trivia night, but can be just sort of dank and depressing otherwise.

I'll take care of getting the back table set aside.
Uh, not to be dense, but is that like 'back room table' or just 'table at the back'?

zennie: if I remember correctly, it was a little of both. There is a table past the bar that's somewhat separated from the main bar area, but it's not behind a door or anything.

I'm no rock star, but I am sometimes in touch with my inner pirate.
The back table at Nanny's is locked in for the meet-up. Like what mullacc said, the table is past the main bar area, through a brief narrow hallway where the bathrooms are located. I've reserved the long table on the left (there are also two booths on the right that are first come first serve). There are also two dart boards in the back room, so if anyone has a set of darts, bring 'em.
Be careful, Nanny's poses a serious threat to your sobriety. Have fun, sorry I can't join you.
