Pony Request: Add to Recent Activity.
Just because I don't feel I have anything to add to a thread doesn't mean I don't want the ease of following it on Recent Activity. Could we get a way to add a post to Recent Activity without having to add a comment to it?

After what Pope Guilty's given us today, this request should be granted.

Q: Could I have some strawberry ice cream?
A: Have some chocolate and pretend it's strawberry.

Actually, it's more like:
Q: Could I have some strawberry ice cream?
A: We've already given you a sundae which contains our strawberry, organic strawberry, strawberry-chocolate, strawberry cheesecake and strawberry yogurt flavors, which are all the strawberry based options we have.
Q: Could you mix them all up into organic chocolate strawberry cheesecake yogurt, then?
A: No.

A: We haven't figured out a satisfactory approach for serving strawberry ice cream that doesn't break the freezer, but we're looking at it. Here are some strawberries and some vanilla ice cream and a blender.

And you might want some little half-and-half cup thingies with that, too.

Yeah, I agree. Normally I just add an unnecessary (though slightly contributing) comment so that the thread will show up in my Recent Activity.

Suggestion!
Recent Activity → Follow
(This feature would ideally be inserted into the big fancy favorites pulldown that is hopefully a real thing that is being worked on--right????)
Plus...
Preferences: Follow: Automatically Follow Threads You've Commented In?

A: Could I have some strawberry ice cream?
B: I'm afraid not -- this is a taxidermy shop, and we do not serve ice cream. I might suggest you try the ice cream parlor next door.
A: But that would be like adding a favorite on metafilter! Can't "ice cream" count as "taxidermy" the same way "liking a thread" counts as "recent activity" over there?
B: Your argument is irrefutable. One strawberry ice cream coming right up.

A: This strawberry ice cream looks like a dead animal.
B: This is a taxidermy shop, and ice cream is in beta testing.

Hey, I want a bag of ice and rock salt, too! Thanks!
*pours ice and salt into a sturdy bag, ties the bag closed very tightly and begins randomly beating nearby Metatalk users with it*
I SCREAM FOR EVERYONE. YAAAAAAARGH! *smash*

I'm going to piggy back here to request that recent activity page to just default to my fpps, threads i've commented in and threads i've favorited.
:)
I know I started a thread on this already, but maybe i'll get my pony if i keep whining about it.

I'm going to take this request and say we should get rid of everything, then implement the ability for users to personal tags to posts, then allow them to view all posts tagged with $tag including a user-definable history boundry.
Examples:
1. Show me everything I've tagged as "followthis" that has had activity in the past 21 days.
2. Show me everything I've tagged as "flameout" and "popcorn" that has had activity in the past 900 hours.
3. Show me everything I've tagged as "what?!?" from users I've tagged as "scary" and "avoid" within the past 30 days
And give me an rss feed for each of them.

I thought this was why people left a comment consisting of a single period in threads they wanted to follow?
On an unrelated note, I find it disturbing that so many of you macabre bastards are so interested in following comments in the obituary threads, and it does little for signal:noisse.

Again with the old signal:noisse controversy! FFS man! Everyone knows now that Signal belongs in the old provence of signal-am-der-meuse, while the ancient village of Noisse has always historically been linked with the French department et arrondissement of Noisse-Abattement. You people should know better than to bring up such ancient territorial agendas. Particularly in this harsh economic climate. Shame on you, I say.

I like the idea, personally. And I'm also guilty of sometimes finding an excuse to add a comment to my own post in order to follow it in Recent Activity without tabbing over. I'm just that lazy. As I type this, I'm eating my dinner from a feedbag.

Q: My strawberry ice cream doesn't taste like strawberries.
A: What does it taste like?
Q: It just tastes red.
A: You got the Big Red ice cream shipped from Texas. That's a feature, not a bug.

A man approaches the ice cream counter and says, "I'd like two scoops of strawberry ice cream, please."
The girl behind the counter replies, "I'm very sorry, sir, but our delivery didn't come this
morning. We're out of strawberry."
"In that case," the man continued, "I'll have two scoops of strawberry ice cream."
"You don't understand, sir," the girl says. "We have no strawberry."
"Then just give me some strawberry," he insists.
Getting angrier by the second, the girl asked, "Sir, will you spell 'van,' as in 'vanilla?'"
The man spells, "V-A-N."
"Now spell 'choc,' as in 'chocolate.'"
"OK. C-H-O-C."
"Now," the girl asked, "spell 'stink,' as in strawberry."
The man hesitates, then confused, replied, "There is no stink in strawberry."
"Exactly! That's what I've been trying to tell you!" she screams.

On the one hand, I kind of like the Wikipedia model of a "watchlist", where pages you edit are automatically added to the list but you're also free to add/remove them manually. On the other hand, it seems a little redundant to have two systems -- watchlist and favorites -- that operate essentially the same way.
