Has anyone ever mark favorite on a post in an AskMe thread in hopes that will light the way for the OP to mark it as Best Answer?
I'm seeing a lot of great peer-to-peer rewarding taking place. It has greatly enriched my browsing and dialog.

The OP has their prerogative. Why would the OP mark as best answer something that others favourited -some mefi's favourite stuff that's flat out stupid so they can find it easily to use against the same poster who posts something related but specious.
Favoouriting is for myself.

Yes and no; I'll do this if I think that a particular answer is correct. And some of my answers have been favorited by others I suspect for that reason.

I usually favourite it if it's essentially a reflection of what I was going to say already. Then I go ahead and say it anyway, because I've got to keep my comment average up.

I sometimes mark answers as favorites in AskMe as a way of saying "Yes, I agree with this one" if I don't have anything of my own to add to the answering process. I don't know if it will necessarily light the way for the OP but it might help give more weight to certain answers if they are heavily favorited.

Yeah, I'll do this occasionally. More often, though, if I like a particular answer that's already been marked "best" I'll abstain from favoriting it, as I feel like the commentor already knows that they've been heard.
I'd also love to know the origin of the "why no?" meme, as my google only returns "why not" and the like.

ME, ME I did that! I marked a thread as a favourite and I didn't sleep all night! And the next day when I woke up, some cunt had deleted the post. But it WAS the best answer. My answer was:
"Perhaps, or maybe"

I asked one question on ask.mf and then later I received an email badgering me to choose a best answer. I didn't like receiving the email (not that it ruined my day or anything either) because I felt there was some subtext of junior-high-popularity-contest-feeling. It may be/have been just my problem, but I don't find much value in the "choose a best answer" feature.

Seriously I would like a worst answer feature. But then again that's what metatalk is for I suppose
a monosyllablic "no" or "yes" in response to a question really shits me for some reason.

The value isn't for you. Choose a best answer is the thank-you gift you give back to the community for taking the time to consider your question. By marking what actually worked, people who are using the archives in the future know which answer to start with, making the information in your thread more useful to others in the community.
It's a lot less relevant in relationship-filter or a 'give me some X that are like Y' questions where there isn't a way to really declare something to be the "right" answer.

Not me. I use it as internal vindication, since I usually comment in relationship questions, and in those the poster almost always knows what they want to do and just hope to get validation. So, if the question is, "I'm in a long-term relationship with a great guy I'll call "A"; the sex is wonderful, we get along great, have fun times, and plan to marry... but I can't stop thinking about this other guy, "B", who stalked me for two years and killed my dog. Should I sleep with guy B to just get that out of the way so I can go on and marry guy A with no regrets?" and 99 people answer "No!" and one person answers "Sure, why not? Monogomy suxs." I know that the person will probably choose that as "Best Answer" - but I can still favorite the better advice.

They need to do way instain bestest anser> who kill thier favrit. becuse these favrit cant frigth back it was on the news this mroing a mother in ar who had mark her three best anser. they are taking the three favrit back to new york too lady to rest my pary are with the father who lost his anser; i am truley sorry for your lots

I find that discontinuity between answers with many favorites and answers marked as best answers usually means that the asker is ignoring other good advice in the thread that doesn't meet his pre-conceived notion of what the answer should be or is just looking for validation and didn't get it from the favorited answer. When I look back at old threads to find some information, favorites are more informative to me that best answers.

I once had an answer given a favorite by the questioner (querier? inquirer? inquisitor? Help me, askme!), but not marked as best answer. I won't pretend that it didn't break my heart in a tiny way.
