O'ahu meetup? Has there ever been one? CAN there ever be one?
Living the country community life can get unbalanced -- I really need to break away once in a while to guffaw, sneer and be obnoxiously hyperbolic. Like metafites?! Anyone heading this way or willing to trek out to Waimanalo for a meetup?

You know what, someone should really make a page in the style of DX activations (where people broadcast HAM radio from remote islands and such) documenting (maps!) where MeFi meetups have taken place, and what parts of the world remain -- for now -- terra inmeetupa.
Good luck, Surfurrus, and I too am envious of your climate!

I'd be there. If I could. God damn my life.

Yes! Then we can plan our travel to places that have been meetup less!

I'm in for sure. More than happy to head over to Waimanalo, too. Did you have a spot in mind? Unfortunately I'm off island from March 15-April 15 so I would be stoked if it were held sometime outside those dates... There are a few other Oahu-based Mefites so we should PM them with a link to this thread too.

based on pb's map Istanbul is crying out for a meetup. How can MetaFilter really call itself an international website if it has never been to Istanbul? There has never been a meetup anywhere in the whole Ottoman Empire?!? For shame.

Awesome pb.
Are the links supposed to be going to somewhere other than example.com?

I specifically requested links to example.org. It's basically the same thing but without all the crass commercialism.

nah, the links don't go anywhere. It's a distinct list of the city names from the past meetup page, geocoded by Yahoo and fed to Google Maps. I just threw example.com in there so the Geo RSS feed would be valid.

lazywhinerkid -- woohoo! Yes, let's do it. If the wind lets up, we even could do a beach cookout/campfire. Yes, let's contact the others (even a Kailua/HI Kai location could be good.)
And ... small_ruminant should we expect some Oakland visitors??
We need to decorate that big blank area on pb's map ;-)

Meetups in tropical locations tend to be sparsely attended. (That was just a shot in the dark, though; I'll give it another try next time I'm visiting my grammy down there.)

not_on_display, LOL - yeah, maybe the weather has something to do with it. But, hey! It is still the rainy season here - and we are *c_o_l_d*!! Seriously, I had to close the windows and use two blankets last night (there was even snow on Mauna Kea).
Emails have begun flying (thanks to lazywhinerkid ) ... we have meetup plans in process. Book your flights?

Alas, not this one. I was just there a month ago.
But I will put in a plug for going. I had about the best food there I can remember having (provided you like fish). Poke. Shave ice with mochi balls. Awesome ramen! Malasadas! (hot Portuguese doughnuts). A farmer's market that has lots of prepared food. And on and on. I loved the food there.
Also, I got a sun tan in 40 minutes, whereas 6 hours in the February sun here does nothing. I love the sun.
The waves were a little scary, with a few exceptions. I didn't have fins so I didn't go in them very much.

lil' ears and I are in, preferably late April. Any part of the island is fine with us.

The wife and I will be on the island (from NJ) from 3/27-4/5 (she's a native, I'm pale as all get out). I'd love to attend if y'all get it together then, tho there have been several requests for dates well past those...
