An Update: Kellogg Company is acquiring the trademarks and recipes of Mother's Cake & Cookie Co., a regional brand with a loyal consumer following in the Western U.S.
Also, Lance, Inc has acquired the much more delicious Archway Cookies LLC, a sister company to Mother's that also went under in 2008.
And in a pretty awesome first move:
"Lance, Inc., based in Charlotte, N.C., will begin operations next week at the former Archway plant with a staff of 50 to 70 workers. Nearly 300 employees lost their jobs when Archway filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in October.
Each former full-time employee received a $1,500 Visa gift card at a meeting Tuesday at Ashland High School's Little Theater."

Oh, man, I've had a helluva day, but when I got back home, there was a new album by Pousette-Dart Band and a whole bag of Archway date-filled oatmeal cookies.

Lance, Inc. and Wise Foods, Inc. are my favorite regional snack makers. Long live Cheez Doodles and Gold-N-Chees!

[Lance] has promised to hire workers at the same rates they were making at Archway - an average of $14.93 per hour.
That's really cool. Makes me totally committed to buying Lance products for most of my snacking needs from now on.

Oh, what delicious news this is, especially if Kellogg's gets the recipe for Mother's holiday cookies with the ornament shapes and the white frosting with the little red and green shot scattered all over them. YUM. Hope hope hope!

Here in Seattle, I've seen the same basic cookies, by Franz. I wonder if they've been waiting for their chance to move into the market....

O frabjous day! My family stocked up on Mother's Cookies last fall and have been rationing them ever since. Just yesterday we cracked open a package of the peanut butter cookies and were devouring them with delight.

this makes me giddy! i missed the rush on molasses cookies and had to pretend the oatmeal ones were even close!
lance is a pretty awesome company. a few years ago i had a question about their smokehouse chedder crackers - they tasted too good to be vegetarian - so i wrote them an email. i got a quick response from a very friendly representative who soothed my fears (totally vegetarian! yeah!) and then gave me a list of other products of theirs that i might like because they used the same type of flavors. normally junk food companies don't even respond and if they do it's rude.
so, yeah lance and yeah archway! (mothers are good too)
