Meetup of brotherly love. December 26, 2008 2:11 PM Subscribe
Anyone interested in a Philadelphia meetup?
I didn't give enough notice last time, but this time I'm just suggesting any time mid to late January. If I need to bribe any of you, I will show up with homemade baked goods.
Also, I would love it if booze were available somehow.

I vote for the 18th, I won't be back in town until the 6th.

I'd for earlier rather than later, since I'm leaving town on the 9th (just an extended temporary leave, dear philadelphians...) but I've only been to one meetup and I skipped out early so I'd say I don't count for much anyway.

I can do the 18th, but not between 4 and 6:30 p.m. If it's a center city/University City thing, I can probably be there right around 6:30 or could stay as late as 3:15.

Center city and a bar agrees with me as well. Somewhere we can get Lindemans Framboise, perhaps? :-)

You can generally get things like that (Lindemans) at Monk's.

Only thing about Monk's is that it tends to be crazy busy on the weekends, especially during the prime time hours of, say, 5 - 11-ish. Eulogy over in Old City might be able to accommodate a large-ish crowd a little better, especially since they have that upstairs area.
(I am going to do my very bestest to actually make it to a bone fide meetup!)

I don't want to hijack the meetup for the sake of Lindemans! I should really just get my lazy rear over to that Total Wine place in Cherry Hill, where you can buy it by the case. :)
The first meetup I went to started upstairs at Eulogy, but so many of us showed up we ended up moving around the corner to a bar that 31d1 knew of. I can't remember what it was called, but we drank Hoegaarden.

Yeah, Eulogy does not handle a group of people arriving separately, some dining, some not very well. Upstairs gets pretty cramped and the wait staff starts freaking if everyone's not sitting down for dinner together.

Ack, I don't know the particulars of bars in Philly at this point, so I'm sorry I haven't been weighing in heavily. I think the idea of someplace like Monks or Belgian Cafe sounds lovely, though. Any idea which place like this is best at accommodating a group? A group that grows and shrinks?
Also, do we have a solid date set? All I ca see is we're saying sometime around the 18th, which is a Sunday. I'm guessing people would prefer a weekend night, but correct me if I'm wrong. (This is all in preparation for me putting my foot down and assigning a date and location soon, promise).

I'm thinking for the sake of seeecrit eeeeating, it should be something along time lines of cookies or brownies. (I would love love love to use my cupcake carrier once more, but it just isn't the right atmosphere for it.)
I've personally been jonesing for peanut buttery goodness lately, and I just came across this, which looks amazing and is a cross between cookies and brownies, but if there are chocolate haters or any allergies that I should know about, let me know and I can work it out.

It was great to meet everyone. Though, I have to say it is a little odd and does sort of feel like the characters we all play on tv are somehow now meeting in this weird crossover/reunion episode. But in a good way.
I've been passed the clip-board for a February Chinatown meetup. Check local stations soon for more info. (Who am I kidding? A megamefimeetup post ought to be up and running by tomorrow afternoon, since the alternative is to, like, work or something.)

In my case, my upstairs neighbor apparently has today off; I, on the other hand, work for a company that sends out helpful emails suggesting ways we can spend the day volunteering, with a little asterisk about how we'll have to burn vacation time to do so. I missed superhero sex?! Hey, no fair! All we had was rectal exam porn!
Yes, greekphilosophy, you are wise. It is Mee-Fye.

Oh yeah, you missed shapeshiftersex, general Batman adoration, grantwriting for Spiderman and how NOBODY wants to sleep with Superman.

The only way Superman could have sex with Lois Lane is if he wore a kryptonite condom. But that would kill him.

I wouldn't do Superman either. He's obviously a dull lay.

I suspected that Superman would go all Patrick-Bateman-narcissist in mid-coitus. (Minus the chainsaw.) Also piratebowling is submitting a proposal to the Pew Charitable trusts on behalf of Spidey so that he never runs out of webbing again.

I think that Superman going all Patrick Bateman would probably be an improvement. I imagine he's all square and earnest and asking permission every step of the way and taking any double entendres literally.

Don't mind Desuetude. She's still just searching for excuses to go drink beer in the middle of Broad Street.
But it is still totally Mee-Fie(Phi) here.

I worship desuetude (goddess of arancini) and have no problem with people in Philly using their quaint regional dialect. But here in North Hadley, Mass., it's MehFee.

A North Hadleyite (North Hadleyer? North Hadleyan? Is there a South Hadley, by the way, and is it as famous as North Hadley?) is calling Philadelphia quaint? Cute.
Why don't you come to our next meetup and tell us how to say MeFi? (Note: I may pelt you with soup dumplings as if they're snowballs and you're Santa.)
