Single Day AskMeFi Archive Browse June 26, 2008 3:50 PM   Subscribe

Is there any way to browse the Ask archives a day at a time? Browsing by date (e.g. http://ask.metafilter.com/archived.mefi/10/01/2006/ ) currently brings up an entire month at a time, which is rather unwieldy.

Addicted to AskMeFi as I am, I like to browse old posts when I finish reading the latest stuff. A one-day-at-a-time browse would make it much easier for me to keep track of which days I've already read. (And for that matter, a feature that automatically keeps track of which archive days I've already read would be AWESOME - but mostly I'd just like to be able to browse a day at a time.)

It would make sense if changing the /01/ in the URL to whichever day of the month you wanted narrowed the archive to that day, but it doesn't seem to work that way. So I see no way to browse the AskMe (or any subsite's) archives a day at a time. As to the second part of your request, I'd recommend developing your own system (using your browser's bookmarks or the on-site favorites) for keeping your place. Actually, that's how I browse the MeTa archives; I go back to the last post I saved, then track it down in the monthly archives and read on from there. It's not a button nor a feature, but it's easy enough and wholly personalized.

Thanks, Eideteker, but it appears that still gives me the full month, assuming I understood your suggestion -

http://ask.metafilter.com/archived.mefi/2006/10/28/ gives me all of October. (As does http://ask.metafilter.com/archived.mefi/10/01/2006/ and http://ask.metafilter.com/archived.mefi/10/28/2006/ , as carsonb pointed out).

Seems like it shouldn't be THAT hard to implement a single day filter, and it would be such a lovely feature to have.

One day at a time? Sweet Jesus.

Oops. I wasn't suggesting current functionality. I was proposing future functionality. /YYYY/MM/DD is the only way that makes sense, from a hierarchical standpoint.

I applaud both Eideteker's proposal and its cryptic presentation.

I applaud applause because I like meta-MeTa.
