Montreal meetup?
I'm going to Montreal for a conference. I've never been there before.
While I'm there, it'd be great to meet some of you from north of the border. Anybody interested? How about the evening of the 21st or 22nd?

Dang it! I've got a big renovation project this weekend, so not much free time.
Good time to be in town though, there's like 5 or 6 festivals going on, including the Finge mentionned by Marquis.

Okay!
Last time I tried organising one of these it didn't get momentum to happen; but if you manage it, I'll show up (:

ambilevous: I don't know any places in Montreal. Can you suggest a time and place?

I only just got here? (:
That's not true. I've been ostensibly living here for, like, two weeks; and was here on vacation for two weeks shortly before.
Although, to be honest, I've pretty much only been out to go and see gigs, rather than out for drinkings sake. I'm a little light on suggestions d:
I am currently living in the same sort of neighbourhood as your thing is on, in, though {:

I didn't realize that in Canada they do emoticons backwards. Huh. ;-)
As for places, I enjoy Lodge on St. Laurent corner Prince Arthur, but that might be a little too loud for a meet-up. It is, however, right next door to La Belle Provence, which has awesome poutine. And you must try poutine while you are up there. It's basically cheese fries and gravy, but it is delicious beyond belief.
If you want more of a dive bar, maybe Bars des Pins? On Pins and Parc...though it might be full of stinky hockey players (with their bags and all), but that place used to be great, too, until the freshman moved in across the street, but I figure it'll still be good now when the kiddies are away.

Let's do the Lodge place. Trying Poutine is on my list for sure. How about the 22nd?

Pah. I've done so-called backwards emoticons for, uh, more than ten years now. It's not a geographical thing d;
Besides, how else can you express abject horror than with this glorious piece of leftist emoticonery: D8
[Poutine on the 22nd sounds great to me. I loves me some poutine]

Word up, yo.
7pm. 22nd.
How do you do it here? Drink, then Poutine? Or Poutine, then Drink? Or both?

Poutine usually follows incredible amounts of drink.
I'm afraid I can't come -- I live out of town (Sherbrooke) and would really like to meet y'all, but I'm tied up here.

We're not a very sociable crowd here. Had a meetup this winter, six people, pleasant enough but no cries for an encore.

Oh hello!
I think I can come, though if so I will be leaving at 9:00 to go to a show. But I'm scared. What's the Lodge like? I'm not so much a fan of that part of the Main (I feel I served my time in years of living at de Bullion/Laval and Prince-Arthur).
Zadcat is right about meet-ups -- I think direct messaging needs to be involved for people to come. Last time posting a thread just didn't do the trick. We need to be eased into the idea with a nice backrub.
It's too bad the weather here sucks right now, during your visit. It's not even that it's raining, it's that it's so damn cold. I think it's supposed to be warmer tomorrow.

Oh, it's a shame that I just saw this today. I'm in Quebec City but I would've planned to come down if I'd known earlier. Bon appetit anyways!

I'll be wearing a tan t-shirt with train tracks on the front. And either jeans or dark shorts. And sandals. Also, I'm a dude.

Okay!
Today is looking a lot like a "WTF?" t-shirt day for me. So if you see me wandering about looking for someone, you should wave or some such.

Lol. Who needs an encore when you have feeds into your brain stem?
Since then, your blog is in my Google Reader so I read your 4 to 7 daily posts that keep me up to date about my own city.
loki is one my flickr contacts so I see up to 5 or 6 of her pics every day, among them a self portrait. I try to guess in what part of town she has been.
And all 6 are Mefi contacts, which means mainly that I read loiseau contributions almost daily in Mefi, Askme and Meta. I can tell you she is racking up "good answers" and that I am intrigued by her knowledge of moderating communities.
Besides, I hate poutine. :-)

WTF indeed. The place was closed so I waited out front for 30 min. Nobody showed.

UGH. That sucks! My "I have 45 minutes before I should leave" nap turned into six hours... I woke up at 12:30.
I'm sorry this didn't work out -- I'm not familiar with the venue so I can't even imagine why it wouldn't be open.
I do think meetups here in Montreal require strong leadership, lots of lead time, and much massaging, possibly with warm aromatherapy oils.

I got there 10 min early and left at 7:20. I was sitting on the curb in front of the door, since the joint was opening late (dude said one of his bartenders was late for work so he couldn't open).
C'est la vie.
