Error when filling out your birthday in the preferences. June 8, 2008 6:21 PM Subscribe
In your preferences, if you select a month and year for your birthday, but not a specific day of the month, you get an error message. Could that be changed so you have the option to fill in only the month/year?
We let you do day/month and/or day/month/year. I'm not sure if there's any benefit at all to doing just month year, is there?

No, we need the exact day. Also, submit a lock of hair and a picture to put on your poppet. Rows and rows of them in compact shelving in the basement of MeFi Central. When a user has been bad, really bad ... well, you often see some of them complaining about migraines, sudden illnesses, and random bad events, don't you?

Naw, we use the day to calculate exactly how old you are, otherwise it doesn't really work.
Are you sure that's the reason? If I just put in the month and day, you wouldn't know how old I was, but it looks like that's one of the two working options, nonetheless.

We also have year only as an option. We added that by popular demand soon after we added birthdays.
The form now errors out silently if you choose a month/year only instead of giving an ugly "null month" error. This is the same behavior as choosing a day or month only.

Next up, we're going to let you specify only the day of the week on which you were born, with a check box that toggles a "this is not actually day of the week on which I was born; I'm just foolin' with ya" flag.
And then we're taking away password changes again, just to mix it up.

The brood I was in hatched on a specific day, but I've always been confused as to whether or not that was my birthday since technically I was a separate entity before that date. So I guess you're kind of discriminating against me by not including "maybe" as an option or giving me the ability to select two separate dates.

Born in the middle of the afternoon
In a horsedrawn wagon on the old A5
The big 12-wheelers shook my bed
"You can't stop here", the policeman said,
"You'd better get born in someplace else
So move along, get along,
Move along, get along,
Go! Move! Shift!"
Born in the tattie-howking time
In an auld bow tent near a tattie field
The fairmer said, "The work's aa done
It's time that ye was movin on"
Born on a common near a building site
Where the ground was rutted by the trailer's wheels
The local people said to me
"You'll lower the price of property"
Born at the back of a blackthorn hedge
When the white hoarfrost lay all around
No eastern kings came bearing gifts
Instead the order came to shift
Winter's sky was filled with stars
But one shone brighter than the rest
The wise men came so stern and strict
And brought the order to evict
Wagon, tent or trailer born
Last month, last year or in far-off days
Born here or a thousand miles away
There's always men nearby who say,
"You'd better get born in someplace else
So move along, get along,
Move along, get along,
Go! Move! Shift!"

LVII.
SOLOMON GRUNDY,
Born on Monday,
Christened on Tuesday,
Married on Wednesday,
Took ill on Thursday,
Worse on Friday,
Died on Saturday,
Buried on Sunday;
This is the end
Of Solomon Grundy.
More bizarre still:
LVI.
TOM married a wife on Sunday,
Beat her well on Monday,
Bad was she on Tuesday,
Middling was she on Wednesday,
Worse was she on Thursday,
Dead was she on Friday;
Glad was Tom on Saturday night,
To bury his wife on Sunday.

Trees will die
All vegetation will die
Radiated men will eat the flesh of radiated men
The sea will be poisoned
The lakes and rivers will vanish
Rain will be the new gold
The rotting bodies of men and animals will stink in the dark wind
The last few survivors will be overtaken by new and hideous diseases
And the space platforms will be destroyed by attrition
The petering out of supplies
The natural effect of general decay
And there will be the most beautiful silence never heard
[ ] out of that.
The sun still hidden there
Awaiting the next chapter.
