The First Ever (?) Lisbon, Portugal meetup??
Mrs. Vacapinta and I will be in Lisboa the weekend of June 28th.
Any Lisboans care to have a caipirinha with us? In Bairro Alto perhaps?
(*lights the MEC signal*)

Please give him my regards as well. And for god's sake, don't have a Lisbon meetup without him. It just wouldn't be right.

I was told by my neighbor that Miguel is alive and well. He deserves a meetup, even if the attrition rate since the Golden Age of Metafilter has been rather high.

What languagehat said. Cheers!
Oh and BrooklynCouch, the Metafilter experience is something we all make together, every day - and any age is only as golden as you make it, as I'm sure you're well aware.

I wish it were true, but the Golden Age ended once blogging became easy and well-known as a form of public communication.
I always wanted to go to Lisbon!

Several years ago, during a well-lubricated IRC session, I spoke with Miguel Cardoso. He asked for my phone number and I gave it to him, and he called. We were both a little giggly and embarassed (me especially, since I could only imagine how much it was costing him) but I can report that he has a very pleasant voice, but not as deep as you might expect. If you were expecting Ricardo Montalban, you would be disappointed.
If you do have a meetup in Lisbon, and the estimable Mr. Cardoso comes by, please tell him the commissioner says "hi".

Also tell him he still has an open invitation to visit me in Utah whereupon I will grill him a steak and we will drink cheap beer.

Well, he recovered from his recent surgery but otherwise haven't heard much from/about him recently.

And a kiss from me!
You know, a chaste, manly kiss. One that smells of turpentine and aqua velva.

Great Goblindegook!
I do have to move it though.
if you (and others) dont mind! Because of a lunch beforehand, 2pm will be tight for us. How about we move this to 3:30 to be safe? We'll definitely be there!

Well, if he was there he was incognito!
Sorry to disappoint everyone, it was, in the end, just me and mrs. vacapinta.
On the other hand, Noobai is a great cafe with a patio overlooking Lisbon harbor, great food and drinks and even warm blankets for the guests if things get chilly (which they sometimes do, even in Lisbon)! So we had a fantastic time...anyways. :)
