Time for another Seattle Meet-Up?
I just answered an askmefi from someone who appears to live on the same block as me, so I figured we look into putting together another meetup. I know y2karl, dw, slarty bartfest and corpse in the library all seem like cool cats I'd like to share a beverage with, and probably others too.
So what say you? Should we find some excuse to go outside these slowly brightening days? (Or atleast find a place with nice windows and a patio, and a good selection of tasty beverages?)

An excellent idea! April's busy for me this year, with assorted houseguests and a birthday party -- but there's a good chance I'd be able to sneak away for a beer (or coffee, or ice water, or Eggs Benedict, or whatever).
April 6, 19, and 20th don't work for me. The rest should be fine.

The Pacific Inn is nice. Any night but Saturday, we would own the place. But please, get me drunk somewhere new. Makes getting home so much more of an adventure.

Um, there's the possibility that I'll be in town on the 28th for a UW iSchool information session. If a meetup happened that day, I would haul ass to make it.
Having said that, I don't know if I will actually be in town. So yeah. Plan what thou wilt.

For locations, we could look at taking over the Stumbling Monk, its only got a few tables, but they are chill. They do however, only serve Beer.

There has been talk of Mike's Chili Parlor in one of y2karl's earlier posts. I have never been, but there's a certain beauty in meeting up at the subject of a MeFi post.

Oh yeah, how about Smith on Capitol Hill? Owned by the Linda's people, great food (though limited vegetarian options), big long tables perfect for meet ups.

Smith is pretty great, I had poutine there last night (which is something you should really plan on sharing with people i discovered). They also have scotch eggs.

Hey fuzzbean, shoot me a MeFail if you'd like some graduates' perspectives on the iSchool. I've got friends, co-workers, and spouses that attended, are attending, or are teaching at the iSchool and, being a librarian, I have a deep-seated need to connect people with information.
I'd like to make the meetup, but schedules are complicated.

stet does not have multiple spouses in varying stages of completion of the program. He has one spouse (me) who is finished, and several friends in varying stages of completion.
And he's a wimp about scheduling. But I think the scotch eggs might convince him.

What is the deal with this town and sawmill gravy? I had a chicken fried steak at the Blue Onion Bistro that was covered in the stuff. It's CREAM GRAVY ON CFS, fools.
Oh, the matter at hand. The 29th is OK, mostly. I have M's tickets for 4/11 and 4/27. Actually, April is pretty free for me.
Schultzy's is good, though I'm not sure about space (I've only sat in the front). Big Time is pretty noisy. Honestly, I have a car and I don't drink much, so I'm pretty free to roam.

dw- as an aside, i've seen sawmill gravy and white gravy as interchangable names for the same thing (milk based gravy). Poutine is usually served with a beef broth gravy. But really, seattlite's like their sausage gravy or breakfast gravy.

Schultzy's has recently (?) acquired the next-door space, and I cannot remember what it used to be. (Not the Korean, formerly European Bakery, place; rather, the place immediately adjacent to Schultzy's.) Anyway, it's twice as big now. And still has good beer.
And wtf, white gravy on poutine? It's supposed to be brown, isn't it? I like the (pretentious? but delicious) poutine at Steelhead Diner at the market, which has brown gravy with bits of chicken in it, and Beecher's cheese curds.

I've never been to a meetup, and I'd sure like to. Conveniently enough, I don't have to work from the 24th to the 6th, so 29th would be awesome.
Any good places in Ballard/Wallingford/Fremont? I used to live in lower Queen Anne, but I didn't get out of the neighborhood much. I always meant to get up that way and never did.

The Sunset Bowl closes for forever on April 19. I think that we need to get one more bowling meet up in there before then. This would be the meet up.

That is, there are no lanes availabe from 5:30 PM until 9:00 PM on Sunday--which is also true for Monday through Thursday. I would suggest that Saturday the 29th is the ideal date for a Sunset meetup.

I'll definitely try and make it, most evenings are free. Since Sunset is closing and Mike's is nearby that's a good selection, but I simply must insist on a future Seattle meet-up at Shultzy's. That is a GREAT place to meet, excellent beer selction and great sausages.

Should one of us call Sunset and see if we can get lanes for that time? Only time I've been there was for sunday morning bowling, so I don't know if it fills up in the afternoon, etc.
Also, we can fall back to the sunset for karaoke also, as Mike's actually closes at 8pm on saturdays.

Also, as a bonus incentive for the Veggies braving to join us at Mike's, I am going to see if I can get some vegan truffles (for everyone) through my connections at Cafe Flora.

Georgetown has become my hood as of late. In addition to the illustrious 9lb, the is also Jules Maes, Smarty Pants (with patio) and some odd lounge scenario round back where the project films onto the facade of the opposing building. These establishments CAN and WILL serve you piss tasting beer upon request....no bowling pin steins .

agent- indeed, i whole heartedly endorse Smarty Pants for the next meetup. Their biscuits and gravy are top notch also.

Future Meetup Update- I just checked with the folks at Smarty Pants (via a covert operation called 'breakfast'), and they are down with us showing up as a big group pretty much any night except wednesday, which is Bike Night. We can give a call before we head down for them to make sure they have tables for us, but it shouldn't be a problem. If we go down when the weather is warmer, we can probably invade their entire patio area and watch the planes land at boeing field.
Saturday Meetup Update- I should my have officially certified, MeFi shirt by then, so I'll be in the lounge at sunset bowl start at 3pm next saturday, the 29th, with tasty vegan snacks for any veggie who decides to brave the adventure to Mike's Chili with us.

Thanks, Stacey. No Hattie's for us; the best I could argue for was Gordito's. I'd probably get into trouble by naming the wedding venue here for any MeFis that might want to smooth-talk their way in after dinner for a glass of wine and dancing, but I can't see any problem with suggesting that it might possibly rhyme with Killshole Day Leach Rub. You know, next to Bay's Roathouse near Molden Mardens.

Mike's closes up shop early on saturdays, so I believe the plan is to get drinks and do some bowling, then go to mikes and get chili, and maybe then karaoke for the stragglers.

I am sad that stet and I had to leave so early, but we did make our 6:20 ferry and the chickens and ducks and dogs were happy to see us. Are y'all still at it? If not, why haven't you posted pictures yet?
I feel SUPER LAME about not having charged the battery on my little XO. I will keep it plugged in between now and the next meetup, so we can play with it, and maybe blasdelf will bring his next time too, and I can see what the mesh network thingy looks like with someone else on it.

The chili was excellent, as advertised. Would eat again.
I met a number of very smart, literate, and eclectic individuals.
For a time, I was seated next to Agent Seamalt Jones, and so was able to exchange meaningful anecdotes about "slugs", the legality of feeding parking meters, lockpicks, digital audio, conductivity of copper vs. the conductivity of verdigris, and the alarming rise in copper theft. He seemed mildly melancholy about the mobility and reach of his thumbs.
Karl brought a book on Seattle history that I also owned, thus giving me an impromptu prop to illustrate an anecdote about big boulders in my yard.
When we left Mike's Chili, we walked around the corner to see the house in this post.
I suspect that when all the construction is finished this woman's little house is going to become something of a Seattle landmark and photo opportunity.

I am sorry that I had to call it an evening so early but it was nice to see so many people. I should have guessed that getting a lane these days would be hopeless but, on the other hand, it was nice to see an article suggesting the Sunset's demise is not yet carved in stone.
And Ballard, Jesus Christ, I had not been up on Market in months--that is development Denver style, housing bubble on meth and steroids. You could see, in any given 180° turn, close to a thousand units of new never lived in apartments loom close and far, block after block in six story canyons. It is unbelievable how fast old Ballard has gone. . It's like a mini-version of the polar ice melt--it's all happening so much faster and so much farther that one would have ever thought on their gloomiest days. That neighborhood has gone Art Bell woo woo greatest storm fast It' s so scary. And how are they going to fill them ? And if they do, good bye old Ballard. It just looks like some science fiction novel cover out there now--all they need now is one of those Geisha blimps from Bladerunner.
And new life awaits you in the Outer Colonies....

So I have returned and got the Flickr photos uploaded. It was a great time, going from sunset bowl to mike's chili (where I got to order a stewart special grilled cheese) to Slarty's place with blasdelf and Agent Seamalt Jones. It was quite a time.
I am glad folks could make it, sorry I was down at the end of the tables with Lattiboy folks, next time I will have to circulate more. I kept wanting to talk to y2karl about how he crafts his posts so well.

I think we might need to do a tour of georgetown. Georgetown Brewery (fine makers of Manny's Pale Ale) offer tours the last monday evening of every month. Also, Georgetown Liquor Company serves fine tasty vegan and veggie treats, and Smarty Pants has some of the best high caloric foodstuffs in town. (speaking of which, I need to get to the gym tonight).
Fuzzbean- We will definitely have to plan a welcome to seattle party for august, Now with 100% more Fuzzbean™, and 203% more SCOTCH EGGS!™
