Good on ya, Miko March 15, 2008 10:56 PM Subscribe
I'd like to say thanks to MIko, who not only just reached 2000 AskMe comments, but also routinely clogs up my "contact activity" feed with Best Answers.
Sorry if this comes off sounding kind of snarky, but it seems kind of pointless. It's great and nice and all that you want to give a fellow MeFite a big pat on the back(and it really is), but if this is the be all and end all of this MeTa, couldn't it have been better handled with a MeFi Mail? I mean, what's to be discussed?
"Yeah, Miko is great!"
"Sure is. So uh... now what?

I know we're talking about quality not quantity but here' the top 30 users by number of ask.mefi comments. This comment count is about a month old - but the order is about the same. So maybe we can give them all a hand too - or rather the ones that provide useful answers and not the ones who post to hear themselves talk (you know who you are)

Well, Effigy, not to speak for others, but number one, Miko is one hell of a sexy username and, really, that's enough.
But yeah, some quality answers on AskMe (number two).
And really, who (number three) would actually object to a 'sweet/kind and lovely' call out?

Since Best Answer data isn't available, I only mentioned Miko because she's in my contact activity list and shows up on what seems to be a daily basis giving people help and answers. I'm not explicitly omitting other people's names, just trying to thank someone who has obviously invested a lot of time helping members of the site without asking for anything in return.

You're joking, right? Please tell me you're joking. You can't possibly be serious. Can you?
Not only is that an incredibly lame idea (what, are we going to send the "winner" an engraved plaque and something nice from Edible Arrangements), but I can't imagine something that would be much worse for this community than turning it into an explicit popularity contest. It's bad enough with favorites.

There is an Edible Arrangements next to the coffee shop I go to on the weekends for ham+cheese panini and coffee. They park their vans out front and I sit at the bar in the window and gaze longingly at the oversized pineapple flowers and veiny chocolate-dipped strawberries. Sometimes I notice that the very tip of the very top strawberry has bled over on to the roof of the van and I get a very little bit annoyed. Other times the van is dripping something out from underneath and I hope that what I am seeing is edible arrangements melting in the van in the hot morning sun.
Also, I'm not in Portland.

Actually, one has to realize how accurate her name truly is for here (from her profile):
Miko, in Japan, are Shinto priestesses. They assist with temple ceremonies, and are thought to be intermediaries between heaven and earth. They are considered to have a mystical aura, and are believed to serve as an oracle capable of channeling kami, or shrine spirits. They sell amulets and small paper fortunes called omikuji, and tend shrines.
We have our own temple priestess?

Well, don't look at it as "discussing"; look at it as "sharing". We all get the chance to collectively appreciate someone who's put in a lot of hard work in improving this community by being a model Mefite on a part of the site which requires a lot of understanding and compassion from the contributor. And we, as a community, should be given the chance to acknowledge that publicly. Especially since it's a good way to set an example for others to follow. So, yeah--congrats Miko; I always love reading your kind and thoughtful posts. You're the best!
