We need a meetup in Canberra.
Searching MetaTalk it looks as if Canberra has never seen a meetup. There are at least a few of us registered users here, and surely a few others that just lurklurklurk.
So how about sometime in March? Easter weekend ought to be out, I'm sure everyone has plans. Maybe sometime around March 14-16? Let's work something out.

Good idea on the meet-up barnacles. Evening of 14 Mar is a Brumbies home game and I have the kid's school Fete on 15th. Evening of the 15th or the 16th looks good for me though. Meet somewhere central(ish) - Civic or Manuka / Kingston?

I would like to request a shout out for the four graces of Canberra, listed below. Feel the power.
Tuggeranong Hyperdome - when a normal-sized dome isn't domey enough, tremble under the infinite space of the hyperdome, its caverns truly "measureless to man". Tuggertastic!
Woden Plaza - everything is at you, Woden Plaza - the only shopping mall in the Southern Hemisphere that's one-half Mediterranean open public space, one-half shopping temple to the old Norse gods. Wodacious!
Monaro Mall - austere and ancient, the lost temple of consumerism - we initiates will never refer to you by your alias "the Canberra Centre". Monarosterous!
Belconnen Mall - your space-station-esque retro-futurism makes shopping an adventure in yesterday's world of tomorrow. Belcolicious!
Remember that the traveler must start in Tuggeranong and make his or her way through all the "shopping centres of the red night" in the order named, purchasing only occult objects and eating only in occult food halls. This pilgrimage may take many lifetimes, and discount coupons from previous lifetimes will not be honoured. Some pay parking is available.

So what if we go for Sunday the 16th? That way we can put it up on the sidebar on MetaTalk. Folks often tend to have other plans for Saturdays, but a nice lazy Sunday afternoon or evening might work, eh?

Ok. Sun afternoon on the 16th. I'm in. Where?

Your idea of somewhere central-ish is a good one. I'm North of the lake, so I'm more partial to someplace like Wig and Pen if we're going near Civic. I'm not as familiar with Manuka or Kingston, though there are nice pubs down that way too. I reckon outdoors + good beer is key here!
I'll at least throw it now on the sidebar of MetaTalk so perhaps others will see.

Afternoon, night, morning, noon. I'm extremely flexible when it comes to Sundays.

Early afternoon is good for me (night is no good as the buses suck sunday nights)

After lunch (late lunch)? 1400'ish?

Sounds good to me. I can aim to be there by 1400, and grab a table with a few chairs outside. And maybe even a little handwritten thing that reads "MeFi?" or whatnot.

Oh, and if anyone has a little digital camera to bring along to prove that Canberra knows how to get down and boogie, MeFi style, please to bring it. I lack such devices.

Whoa, there, sarcastic cowboy! It turned out all-right. dhruva showed up briefly to say hi -- and then appeared in Sydney, I see! -- and so dangerousdan and I enjoyed the finest microbrews Canberratown has to offer for a few hours. Good times!

Yeah I'm still in Canberra. If you canberrites (?) want a repeat meetup, I'll gladly make it. (I'm here for another 15 days, bees willing)

Hehheh, no worries tellurian. I left out my own emoticon, so, belatedly: :)
A repeat meetup within 15 days might not be doable, dhruva. dangerousdan and I were discussing trying to force another in Sydney in a few months when we would be in the area, though!
