Montreal rendezvous?
I read some old Montreal meetup threads and I felt kinda sad. There were at least two threads where no one jumped on the suggestion. And I know this isn't really the most, uh, festive time of year, but maybe that's the best reason why we should meet -- to stave off the S.A.D.
We've all seen other cities' meetup pictures. I just know we can beat them with our internationally-renowned Montreal good looks. C'mon, let's do this thing.
I'll throw out a few suggestions:
Café Romolo, 272 Bernard O
Casa del Popolo, 4873 St-Laurent
Le Depanneur Café, 206 Bernard O (admittedly I've only ever walked past this place but it looks adorable)

Depending on when it is, I'd be interested. Thursday works better for me than Friday.

I'd love to do this. Fridays are better for me than Thursdays (my knitting group meets every other Thursday, and I don't like to miss it.)

I'm in. I'm a big fan of Casa. He can see the greatest shows there, up front and intimate. They also make spectacular healthy sandwiches.
It is not the right place for this. It's going to be loud and crowded.
Bar-bar has the advantage of being nearby and Metro, although I will admit to being curious about Le Depanneur Café.
Fridays is best for me, and Thursday work as well.

Okay, maybe I'll add a thread so it's in the sidebar, plus mefimail some of the folks in my proximity widget. I'm going to propose Friday the 29th to give lots of advance notice. Does that sound alright or is it insanely far away?

Friday the 29th is a date so strange and rare it must be the right one.

Put me down in the maybe pile; I'll have a better idea as the 29th approaches. I messed up my back de-icing a few driveways (see what being neighbourly gets you?) from those ~4" of solid ice that accumulated from the last storm... so if it gets re-aggravated before then, I won't be in a very meet-up-y state.

Ah, I'll be in New York then! Sad, but if there are any events going around town that people think are cool, I'd be interested in seeing them. And, of course, any other meetups. I'll keep my eye on this thread in any case!

I was walking on the other side of the street this afternoon and saw that the name was "Le Barbare" so I took a pic, and then thought "What the heck!", crossed the street and asked permission to take a few more snapshots.

It would be a bit of a tragedy if poutine didn't make an appearance in the first successful Montreal meet-up to include digital photography. The Flickr set would inspire awe and jealousy among those who have been bitten by the cheesy beast but are unable to get a good fix, and either horrify or convert those who haven't.

Good job on shooting the menu -- if I had my druthers every restaurant would have their menu online.
This is a good point though:

True. It would also stifle comparisons to "disco fries" or what have you. Plus, any occasion where eating poutine is considered a necessity and a public service is good by me.
I have heard much praise of Mont-Royal Hot Dog, which by my calculations is quite close to le Barbare...

Can I come too ? I'm definitely open on the 29th. I just moved to Montréal so any of the mentioned venues is fine with me since I barely know the city, I'd be hard pressed to come up with any suggestion.

I have a counter-proposal. The evening of March 1 is the Nuit Blanche. It might be fun to get together and go to a few galleries or stroll one of the museums, instead of just sitting around a bar.
Or, we could meet on February 24 instead and do the subterranean 5-km walk – you only need to register if you plan to run the course.
McSly: Welcome to Montreal. Please note that the name Montreal does not take an accent if you're writing in English.

Thank you, I like the city a lot, well except the snow (seriously, how much snow can you get in just one place ?) The night of March 1st is fine for me as well, but not the 24th I won't be in Montreal (<-- See, no accent, I' m learning).

Hmm... The Biodome at night sounds interesting, but I'm not sure if it'll be as interesting as it sounds, y'know? If it's too kid-oriented, etc.

The snow is orders of magnitude better than what came down from the skies 10 years ago.
