Sad and slightly bizarre Gorilla Suit Day news from Mark Evanier, which explains why that link from last year isn't working:

Important-Type Announcement
The past few years, this weblog has celebrated the work of a brilliant cartoonist named Don Martin by noting his very funny holiday, National Gorilla Suit Day. I've encouraged you to remember the late Mr. Martin and his work and now I'm in the odd position of...well, not discouraging you but just announcing that Don's widow has asked me not to mention him or his holiday and to delete all past mentions of both. I don't fully understand why but I still have (and will always have) the greatest respect for the man...so I've done as she asks...
Weird, huh? Luckily he left up last year's report about sending a gorilla-gram to the Mad offices.

Not nothing. At the end of the day, you still got to wear a gorilla suit.

This thread has given me another reason to love Greg Nog.
And that's simply marvelous.

Interesting! You know, it seems to me that Don Martin hasn't gotten the press that he deserves. Not that he's a complete unknown, but he doesn't seem to have been as canonized as Charles Schulz or Jack Kirby. I just chalked it up to different tastes, but now I wonder if his widow has something to do with it.

A boxed 2-volume hardcover set of his complete works from Mad ain't chopped liver (if not constituting being as canonized as Kirby and Schulz, as you note.)

You know, there's this (now defunct) Gorilla Suit Day, and a bunch of yuppies on Facebook had New Yorkers going around in their underwear recently, but what does MeFi have?
I have proposed a Mefi holiday before. Now we just need a date and a dress code!

Wouldn't it be easier if we just took over National Librarian Day or National Beard Month? My guess is that 99% of Mefites are either librarians or have a beard.
