Calling All Mefi Library People!! Got an hour to kill? Some Professional Development money to spend? Want to know the secrets of AskMe from Jessamyn?
I have coerced Jessamyn into presenting an hour long (50 min with q&a) audio conference entitled "Collaborative Information Systems and Reference Service: Using the hive mind to answer questions" for the Education Institute up here in Canada. She will not be focusing just on AskMe but other inferior copies like Yahoo Answers as well. If you have the time and a bit of money it should be interesting. The session will take place Monday Feb 4 2pm ET/11am PT. Anyone is welcome to join in, you don't need to work in a library or be a librarian-wannabee.

A glorified gig with a $74 cover charge.

Would this be the appropriate venue in which to inquire how babbys are formed?

That's what you get when you hire Rock-star-Librarians.

Is this primarily a presentation, or an interactive Q&A? And yeah, that's an awful lot of sockpuppet money.
Are the presentation materials going to be available post-conference?

I don't think you are personally making money on this. It would appear, however, that your organization is. Yes?

You should have bought a text ad. In the very least, you should have gotten Wendell's email list and spammed potential attendees that way. Just because it involves a Jessamyn, it doesn't make this "metafilter-related."

Yes its a chunk of change, hence my comment about Professional Development money. I probably would have a tough time spending the $54 of my own money.
Cortex - it will be primarily a presentation with a small amount of time (10-15min) for questions. I believe Jessamyn will be posting her talk notes on librarian.net after the session but the Education Institute cannot post the audio. They used to do that, but it was becoming to much trouble to get all the copyright clearance from all the presenters.

meh. Call me when she can raise the dead and is doing a live demonstration. Give me a heads up first though, so I can settle a score while remaining out of jail.

Mmm, supply and demand, people. I bet they could make a lot more from this venture had they priced it around 20-30. MeFites are a force to be reckoned with.

Dave Faris, I'd say this meets pretty much any criteria for Metafilter-related.

Sadly only Matt has the ability to raise the dead. He promises to pass that power only onto Cortex as #1 is afraid of what that ability will do Jessamyn.

Phire - usually what happens is an organization registers and then sets up a speakerphone in a conference room so as many staff as possible can attend. A typical session usually has 20-30 registered 'people'.
Dave Faris - you are right, I completely forgot about the old textads. Are they still around even?

Anyone can call me on the phone and I will tell you my AskMe secrets and then you will wish you had never called. But yeah my notes will be available freely afterwards, etc.
Bazzle, thanks, but this seems a little weird and ad-like to me. No big deal but I think I'll close this up.
