MeFi Mail link in profile page all screwy

I'm running Safari on Mac OS 10.4, and the "send MeFi Mail" link does not seem to work. Am I alone?

When I click the link, all it seems to do is reload the profile page. I can respond to MeFi mail sent to me, but I can't initiate contact. Am I doing something wrong? Is there another way to send someone a message without clicking the link in their profile?

That's the main way to send MeFiMail and I've never seen that problem before. Can you try Control-clicking the link to see if you can the send mail window to open in a new tab?

I thought the same thing about opening in a new tab, but it didn't work.

If it helps, the link that opens when I click it always ends with this: #%23. Don't know if that means anything or not.

Gah, I'm a fool. The Deej just sent me a message via Safari 3.04. I think I'm probably just hopelessly behind in updates, as I'm using 2.0.4. I'll let people know what happens once it downloads.

23 is # in ascii. The link that shows up when hovering over "send mefi mail" in a profile ends in ##

The Deej's, for instance, is http://www.metafilter.com/user/21431##

I don't know why one of the # turns into %23, though, in Safari 2.0.4. Let's hope the update fixes things.

The #'s are just placeholders. All of the action happens in an onclick that submits a form via JavaScript. After that, the onclick returns false so the browser knows not to follow the "link". Sounds like the JavaScript isn't working in the older version of Safari though, so the return false doesn't have a chance to fire.

My most favourite thing of late is saying "Corduroy" with an english accent, emphasizing the middle part, like "COR-JU-ROY," instead of the normal "corder-roy" of my sad, sad youth.

It's quite fulfilling, after a lifetime of saying it like it's just boring pants.
