Thank you, admins. December 14, 2007 5:14 AM Subscribe
This holiday season (yes, I said it), I'd like to give thanks for the wonderful deletions of our ruling triumvirate. By deleting mediocre junk posts, you guys make MetaFilter a better place. Thank you. Really.
I don't know if I've just started noticing recently, but it seems like there's a lot of crap being posted to the front page nowadays, and you guys usually take care of it but-quick. And despite what seems like a quickening pace, it still feels like you all err on the side of keeping a post up. Thank you for doing what is certainly a frequently thankless job, and for doing it withgrace good humor.
No pb hate here, he just isn't a very active deleter.

If we're really, really giving thanks for the MeFi admins, it would have for all of the cool new features (and ponies) that have been given out lately. Kind of like an awesome, geeky Christmas present straight from the internets that my parents would disapprove of in my younger years.
Also thanks to everyone for that time I laughed loud enough to wake my sleeping child. We both enjoyed that one.

cribbed from Conan the Barbarian:
mathowie: Hao! Dai ye! The server stayed up another month! This is good, but what is best in life?
cortex: The open source, quad processors, five button mice at your wrist, and the 30inch monitor glow in your hair.
mathowie: Wrong! Jessamyn! What is best in life?
jessamyn: To crush crappy threads, see them snarked before you, and to hear the lamentation of the boyzone.
mathowie: That is good! That is good.

lol, Brandon Blatcher!
I can totally get behind this call-out. I love, love jessamyn and cortex [NON-CREEPY]. I also love matt, but in a more formal, kinda-feels-like-my-boss-who's-really-nice-and-cool-but-still-my-boss way. I'm pretty sure I love pb, too, but in a invisible-guy-who-makes-everything-much-better way.
Most of all, I thank every one of them for their astonishing patience.

Whoa Parmanparman,
Did your account get hijacked after you left yourself logged into MeFi on a public terminal?

Yeah, 'tis true that they do a tough job mightily well. I'd hug them if not for the almost certainty that they would recoil in horror, drawing away from the touch of one who dare not approach lest he make the feet of the mighty unclean.
While I may be posting both drubk (first time, w00t!) and extraordinarily tired, I mean every word. Theirs is a thankless, mostly invisible task and they do it with not only grace and humour, but panache and style into the bargain. I can't think of any way the management/moderation of the site could be improved without taking away some fo the character of the place (this would be bad, in case that isn't clear).
If I've missed anything, just append what taz said to what I said, because she said it all better than me anyway.

This is bizarre. It would make a lot more sense to thank the people who post good things.
I personally feel that the deletions here are always a shame. Shame that somebody posted something worth deleting (if it really was), shame that we had to assign a person to babysit our posts and posters, shame that someone has to make the fuzzy decision, and msot of all shame that we can't have more free discussions largely because people here can't handle posts of a certain nature gracefully and just pile on as fast as possible.

You see? YOU SEE? This is the kind of thing that happens when you introduce a warm and fuzzy into our grey anger area. People over the past week or two have been coming here and seeing: note: Everyone needs a hug. And slowly but surely, it's been infecting their brains with holiday cheer and (ugh) goodwill towards their fellow humans.
Complimenting admins is just the first start. Before you know it, they will be saying nice things about one another.
Stop this madness now! Change the hug advice. May I suggest the eternally useful phrase: kill something.
[Yeah, ok. The admins do a great job. Fuck, didja see that? Now it's affecting me as well.]

A little late for Thansgiving (REALLY late if you're Canadian) but let me add my own very special THANK YOU to the MetaFilter administrative triumvirate, the greatest trio since Peter Paul & Mary, who have rarely if ever (I can't recall; it has been 8 years) deleted my mediocre junk posts. Now, before you start accusing the mods of wendell-favoritism, let me point out that two of the three deleted posts involved things I had seen elsewhere on the Web and decided myself were not worthy of MetaFiltering. Therefore, the lesson is: if it's too lame for wendell, it's too lame for MetaFilter, or WWWP? (What Would Wendell Post?)
