The tubes are clogged: Missing MeFi Music December 7, 2007 7:38 PM Subscribe
The MeFi Music iTunes feed seems to be broken.
I haven't gotten any songs from the MeFi Music RSS feed in iTunes since December 4th, even though I see a pile of music on the MeFi Music page. Anyone else having the same problem?

Since we're talking about the iTunes feed, can I ask if there is not some better way it could be used?
Currently the iTunes feed deposits your songs in the Podcasts directory, which is nice but the downside is that you can't just press play once and then listen to all your downloaded songs. You need to manually play each song after one finishes, just like you would a normal podcast, which is understandable given that iTunes thinks your MeFi music song is a podcast.
Surely there must be some way that we could have the iTunes feed move songs automatically to the music directory, rather than the podcast directory? If it can't be done as a site feature, perhaps a Greasemoneky script?

When I first did the feeds, iTunes would let you also play them as songs via the artist/album stuff, but in the last version or two they completely separated the podcasts from music, which is unfortunate.
I wish iTunes would let you designate music-not-talk podcasts that should end up in the music area of your iTunes/iPod setup.

Now, now, mathowie, the people at Apple know better than you exactly what you want and what's best. Like the elevator at the Apple store in Tokyo, that stops on every floor, always, whether there's anyone getting on or off or not.

I only get MeMu through the feed. It would be really nice if it contained links back to the MeMu pages for each song. If I like one, it is usually a bit of a pain to go back and find the song page to comment, so I don't usually bother.

Not via iTunes, but if you have NetNewsWire, you can subscribe to the feed in that, and set it to download the enclosures and add them to iTunes automatically.

You can make a smart playlist that includes all the tracks in your library with Album=Metafilter Music (or something like that). Then select all the tracks in that playlist, do "Get Info", and uncheck "skip when shuffling". Now you can play the whole playlist through. Unfortunately, you'll have to redo the "skip when shuffling" step with each new addition -- I just wait till I've got 50 or so songs waiting for me.
