The Whistler trip is now two weeks away. In case anyone is still on the fence about coming, check out the wiki for pics of the latest conditions, and for a link to some great deals on lift tickets and accomodations. Scroll down for a little taste of what's in store.
I will be in Whistler tomorrow as I host a contingent of Japanese journalists attending the Whistler Film Festival. Life is good.

I learned to snowboard on Blackcomb. And ride a T bar. Wish I could make it. I love that long final run down from the top at the end of the day. I practically get choked up thinking about it.

I was up last weekend. It was just beautiful.
Still on the fence about if I'm coming for the whole weekend or just daytripping for one day. Anyone have space on the Saturday night? I have a season pass so the 2-night 2-ticket deal doesn't really suit me.

PPaul, I have a possible option on a VW camper van... it'd be cold, but it'd be free. Subject to [ed]'s blessing of parking spot occupancy.

Actually I just realized that there won't be room in the driveway for another car. We live in a suite and our landlords have a construction company. There's probably room for the campervan, but not another car. Perhaps if you're driving up seperately, you could park in the daylots, or maybe in a cul-de-sac across the street. We'll work something out.

Paul, if you decide you'd like to come up and are interested in the camper van possibility (subject to [ed]'s parking and limits of polite couch surfing) let me know ASAP. It might cost ~$100 in ferry fees to get it from Victoria to Vancouver, so I need to ask the folks very soon if I want to borrow it.

I was at Whistler yesterday; shortly after heading home they closed the highway and we had to go back to Whistler and stay over. It was a monster snow-storm, just a nightmare. Those who are driving, make sure you have winter tires or snow chains if you're attempting the drive in winter conditions. I heard police were ticketing drivers with improper tires and turning them back. (such storms are rare but trust me when I say you need to be prepared. I must have seen a dozen cars in the ditch in one hour.)
anthill, give me a day or two to think about it. Would you be coming from Horseshoe Bay? Could I hitch a ride up with you from there?

Hmmm, taking the camper van increases our exposure to bad weather - there's chains and winter tires for my folks' car, but the VW van is rearwheel drive and handles like crap in all seasons.
Lemme know, PP!

Paul, if you want to come up with anthill, you are welcome to our floor as well. It will be cramped, but we have just enough space for another person to sleep.

Paul, it's good that [ed] offered that, cause the camper van's out. However the car is still in and you are still welcome to a ride (we got ski racks). Plan is now to drive up on Friday leaving at about noon-ish because of the up to 20cm snow forecast. Daylight driving and beating weekend warriors to the highway is worth it. Hope the construction isn't bad.
