I'm confused? Were they both posted by the same user?
Was jmd82 actively posting to the first (Blue) and then posted the mass-consumption link as well?
And hey - there is at least one argument for big-screen TV's - less traffic/fuel consumption ;-)

We had brunch at a middle eastern bakery. Now we're baking bread, turkey, and various side dishes with enough fiber for an All-Bran commercial which we will not watch on the 42" plasma TV we don't have.
Now that I have a recipe in hand for cranberry relish, I must reenter the fray.

Is having a plasma television somehow related to population growth? Is having a plasma television worse for the environment than driving all over to do outdoor activities? Nah.
Anyway, hope everyone (American) has a happy Thanksgiving except for limeonaire who clearly would never be so hypocritical as to celebrate such a consumerist orgy and will be spending the day in silent reflection and enjoying some stale bread and oatmeal.

When I first saw this, I thought referred to the growth of Metafilter users... Indeed, what happens X years down the road, when there are, say, 2 million Metafilter members? You wake up, log in, and discover there are five thousand front page posts...
Perhaps by that time Metafilter will become Balkanized, with unique color schemes for politics, drugs, sex, LOLcats, and single-link-YouTube posts.
Already, AskMeFi is becoming overwhelming. The Green is becoming The Soylent Green.

Me too. It has hurt and helped. We get more links. The average quality is probably less, but there are more good ones merely due to volume. That is something we give thanks for to day, thanks be to God, please bless this filter. We also have too many threads with hundreds of comments. Not good. No one can follow that nonsense, but it is the inevitable result of ten of thousands of active members. At least we aren't as fucked in that regard as /. Who we want to waste their time commenting there, when your comment is lost in the drone like a cheer at the SuperBowl?

Nah, that's my brother. I'm actually spending the day nursing a guilty, conflicted conscience about my inability to decide which parent (if any) most deserves my love and attention today.
W.r.t my post, the observant will note that the post itself merely points out an interesting synchronicity—I publicly posited no value judgment on said synchronicity. As with many MeTa posts, it was more like, "Look everyone, a contrast! Now fight!" I'm more rabble-rouser than activist, to be sure.
In any case, what I will publicly posit a value judgment on is ending sentences? With a question mark? Even though they're not questions? You know?
(More fuel for the fire, yay.)
Happy Thanksgiving!

So watching television is more earth-friendly than having unprotected sex, and a couch potato lifestyle has a smaller carbon footprint than taking frequent transcontinental trips.
So everyone should be watching TV this Thanksgiving, but not until after reading my Guide to Thanksgiving TV Marathons. (Yes, I am a link whore. But I have only a few more hours until it's totally out of date.)
Oh, and AskMetaFilter's server uses green energy... or green backgrounds or something.

And in Metabomb's defense, the airline he uses for those trips uses Used French Fry Oil for fuel and has a set of bicylce pedals at each seat as an in-cabin energy source. (And most of his foreign trips are to Nyuckistan.)

I've only got one guest coming over, but I have to cook for about 8, the way my 42" Plasma TV consumes. Seriously, when I bought it, it was a 13" black and white tube. I never knew they had such appetites. Damn TV needs to get a job and feed itself.
It's a big decision to bring another TV into this world. They consume a lot, and it's a lot of responsibility. One day, my TV might grow up into a movie theater. Do we need more of those?
At least my brother, my TV, and I are going to have a fantastic Thanksgiving meal.*
