Ask MetaFilter. It's a Punchline. November 14, 2007 9:43 PM Subscribe
I DUNNO. ASK METAFILTER. A shoutout (in the company of some rather big web-names) from big-time webcomicker (and dead tree comicker), MetaFilter's Own clango.
"What's an Orkut?" is not an appropriate question for AskMetafilter. Flagged.

Man, Ask Mefi is probably the best anecdotal education a boybot can ask for.
Effigy, you can love Family Guy as long as you don't mind me hating it. If it were silly little shorts without the pretension of being a "real" sitcom, it might be enjoyable!
Print's doing OK- I'm no Dilbert, but it's helping pay the bills and getting professional editing from this guy has been ridiculously useful. Seven years in this biz, never been edited before. It can be helpful.
Since you guys found and posted this like 30 seconds after the comic went up, consider me lurking in this thread if anyone wants to talk comics!

Consider it a deal! But you should check out the last two epsiodes of Family Guy if you want a "real sitcom" as they were not only a great two-part story, but the cutaways were few and far between.
Glad to hear your print run is going well though. I was reading and enjoying DS long before you 'sold out' (wink wink) and as someone who sold out himself, leaving a dream of cartooning behind to persue other goals, I was rooting for you to succeed.
Now, get back to making more excellent comics, you crazy comic-monkey! And resolve this Clango/Maura/Pale-Suzie love triangle storyline once and for all, dammit!

I enjoy both Deisel Sweeties and Family Guy. So there. (I just think of the random cutaways as a neverending send-up of the lame clip shows every "real" sitcom does every couple of years. Seth MacFarlane does have one of those punchably douchey faces, though. I wonder if he's related to Glenn Beck or Richard Roeper or Carson Daly.)

(I wonder what the MeFi empire's webcomic footprint is, how widely it's been shouted-out to. I think Interrobang's invoked it at least a couple of times, and I know I spent 20 minutes this morning trying to match the colors of the front page for a panel detail)

Well, we've got Rowland as well. I'd love to see Dorothy Gambrell hanging around here, but she seems to actually spend her time being productive. Craziness.
And I'm convinced that if Mssr. Jacques got an account, he and jonmc would kill each other in an indie/classicrock death match inside of a week.

But DS's pixel-sprite style makes it the one webcomic that would be better with stiff, limited animation. I'd even suggest going the full Clutch Cargo/"Syncho-Vox" route (if you don't think Conan has already done it to death).
And if we're making 'dibs' on character voices, I am SO Indie Rock Pete.
