Oklahoma City meetup. October 14, 2007 4:21 PM Subscribe
Now that some ex-Texans are settled and some other OK Mefites are wanting to meet, it looks like November 10th would be a good time for a meetup here in the city. This invitation goes out to any one willing to drive in for the night - (looking at you ufez and bugg) and those close enough to carpool. Come inside and help decide where to get together.
I was thinking somewhere in Bricktown, maybe, but since it might be too busy on a Saturday, maybe over on Meridian? Lots of choices, I think it might depend on how many people want to come out.

I heartily endorse this event or product. Lemme get back to you tomorrow on venues - I've got some of my people* working on it.

Aww, Brittanie, that's too bad. Well, if you give us a heads up when you plan on coming back for a visit, it will give us another excuse for a meetup. Where is this Rock N' Bowl of which you speak?
Dr. Z, was thinking evening. Isn't there a game that day? (Just in case that is a conflict.)
Ormond, see if any of them know about this Rock N' Bowl. :)

It's Texas Tech - in Lubbock, though. Kickoff's at 11am.
What about Sushi Neko? I think they'll take a reservation for a group.

Strike that, I misread my calendar; it's a home game - Baylor. But I think kickoff's still at 11am.

If I'm thinking of the same place, it's down in the southwest quadrant around 59th, and would certainly be a... quirky choice.

Rock 'N Bowl happens every weekend at 66 Bowl on Rt. 66 just west of the fairgrounds.
But even if you don't plan the meet-up for a Saturday Night, 66 Bowl is great place to meet friends and hang out. They have a full bar.

D'oh. I'm not back in Tulsa until Thanksgiving week. And then not coming back for another year.

My sweet d, I have learned after all of these years that you shall never come and see me up here. I merely extended the invite to those two since they expressed an interest at the Dallas meetup. You didn't, so there. You know I always enjoy seeing you, tho.
Brit, I have been there, but didn't realize it was called that. Last time I was there, the band was the manager's teenage son and his band, and they let their girlfriends giggle and "sing". We hadn't drank near enough to enjoy that.
dw, that's too bad, but you have just given us an excuse for another meetup *next* November.

Some day I'll come and prove you wrong. Till then, I'll just have to have a party with ufez's lady friend while he is gone since she wasn't invited either.

Drat. Unfortunately this semi-settled ex-Texan has to make a trip back down there that weekend. I demand that there be another (second) event planned, and SOON.

The Neko is always lovely.
Okay, on the subject of bars, Downtown Monthly did some quick editors' picks for us - based on our circumstances they liked VZD's, Tapwerks, Maker's in Bricktown, the patio at Mamacita's if it's not too cold, and someplace called the Red Rooster on N. Walker. Anyone have personal experience?

I think TapWerks would be good for us. Its down in Bricktown, where there are other things to do if we want, like stroll over to Maker's afterwards (My best friend's husband might be playing there that night). Neko might be a bit pricey, esp if we want to spend money on drinks, too.
I have been to the Red Rooster, but prefer the Cock 'o the Walk.*
*wait, that came out all bad

Count me in. Don't care where or when as long as there is beer and MeFites it'll be golden Ponyboy.

C'mon Okies let's get this party started! November 10th Tapwerks sounds great to me. I can pickup anyone within a 40 mile radius of OKC. I'm pumped to meet y'all!

oops, 11/10 is OU vs Baylor. The gametime has yet to be announced, but w/season tix I'll definitely be there. I could easily meet somewhere in Norman as long as it isn't a night game. Otherwise maybe Friday the 9th?

Okay, we are a quiet bunch, but after many emails the traditional way, and not with the fancy new FiMail system, let's pin it down to this:
Friday night, November 16th, 7pm at TapWerks in Bricktown
Sound good?

Incidentally, unsolved mystery fans, this week's Oklahoma Gazette interviews OU film student Riley Harmon about his innovative diary-on-receipts website proofofpurchase.com. Apparently it rose to internet fame through mention on popular websites Stumbleupon and Metafilter. (original thread , MeTa )

Quick update/reminder - This Friday night, November 16th, 7pm at TapWerks in Bricktown. It looks like we will have at least 7 of us there, so we will need a couple of tables to park ourselves. I also found out that there is a big Centennial concert with Garth, Reba, Toby and Vince at the Ford Center at 7pm, also. I don't think we will have any problem getting seating when we get there, but it will prolly get crowded after the show.
Can't wait to see everyone there!

I'm 6,000 miles away right now.
(But I suggest Rock N' Bowl.)
