When I read the MeTa thread above, I thought it was a reference to OJ Simpson and Target. Nevertheless, these are my very favorite kind of deleted threads on the Blue.

I should also say that marcelllot has been unjustly maligned.
Take this example:
its funny , since youtube has been online , all kinds of police brutality videos have been reported
She's challenging our assumptions about causation, reopening the wound of an unexplained correlation whose mystery our prejudices would prefer to resolve for us. Does police violence get captured on film because there are more cameras and distribution venues, or do the police become violent in order to appear on their own tazer-tv? Is youtube about truth-telling or fame-seeking? Does the medium make the message or does the message choose its medium? What spectacle will we balk at, when we have become absolutely passive, watching the boot rise and fall on the human soul without flinching, staring impassively at the atrocity archive, giggling at the visions of torture beamed into our heads by satellite?
No... I think marcellot was too deep and too wise for this community. This joyously free spirit offered sweet orange succor for those willing to receive it, but you all rejected it. marcellot knows the answers, wanted only to share them: "I am good!" she shouted, "Coupons are good!"
"Goodness comes from others!" you retorted. "If you were good we would already have heard of you!" As if anything known, predictable, normal, anyone but marcellot could make the world, or the web, great in the midst of our malaise. No one listened. You are all slaves.

I've written a little song for the occasion. In your mind, give it a kind of 60's European pop flavor. Think "Windmills of Your Mind", or "Theme from A Man and A Woman"
verse one
L O L,
three simple little letters
L O L,
they describe the situation
very well,
L O L ... L O L.
verse two
It was spam,
what besmirched the nobel blue today
was spam,
and the spammer said
no that's not what I am,
but it was spam
yes ... it was spam
bridge, with requisite modulation
but the watchful MeFites saw right through the ruse
as if the spammer was a bomb they lit the fuse
and the spammer now resides in MeFi hell
left with only just a crumbling ... L ... O ... L ......
verse three
L O L,
marcellot we won't forget you
L O L,
and we won't be buying what you
had to sell,
L O L ...
L O L ...
L O L ...
outro
L O L ... L O L ... L O L ... L O L ... L O L ... L O L ... L O L ... L O L

This site is made up of a bunch of macho children and I'm glad it has finally been pointed out. I, for one, am fucking sick of all the 6-year-old on this site strutting around, stripping of their shirts to flex their pectoral muscles, smoking UNFILTERED cigarettes, excessively combing their mountainous pompadours, and endlessly quoting dialogue from Glengarry Glenn Ross. THIS SITE WAS NOT MEANT TO SUPPORT SO MANY MACHO CHILDREN!

This brings to mind something I've always wondered about. Coupons have a nominal "cash value", but how could one exchange a quantity of coupons for the listed cash? I think I'd be laughed out of the bank if I tried to deposit them. Am I just supposed to find someone dumb enough to think that they could deposit them, and get the cash from them before running?

cortex's "What in the hell" was way too mild; it deserved a "What the FUCK" (note the 'fuck' is all caps, bold and italic)
I have a theory why he was so late to the party; he probably watched the Pacific Time Zone premiere of "Cavemen" on ABC and was already OD'ing on "What in the hell"...
And does anybody know if Target stores are selling OJ's book?

How come nobody commented on this contribution from nicolas léonard sadi carnot?
I'm not quite clear on the orange juice connection, but as a response to marcellot's cri de coeur, I found it unexpectedly moving and beautiful.
It kind of sounds like Cavafy, but if not, nicolas has got some poetic chops. Either way, welcome.

"What the fuck" is a wonderful phrase, but in this case the mouthfeel of "What in the hell" better captures the jaw-droppedness of the whole thing, the phrase itself a fairly smooth crescendo toward open-mouthed shock. The apical/fricative punctuation of WTF would express, I think, a degree of aggression not manifest in this case—better suited, that one, to the occasional bizarre email rebuke or whatnot.

cortex, you clearly put a large (and kind of worrisome) amount of consideration into your word choice in such cases. I will read all of your deletion reasons out loud from now like the poetry they truly are. I bow to superior skills.
Or maybe, just maybe, you're bluffing to cover a deletion reason generator that you're testing out.

Oh man, "deletion reason generator"? Yeah, right, and next I'll whip up a snarky comment generator and just retire from metafilter altog

You need the "in" if you're to capture the slackened jaw of Cletus or similar.
"What in the hell? Someone done stoled my wheels."
"What in the hell are you thinkin'? Move your paw and kiss my grits."

Better to learn that "spam is a scam" lesson on a an ineffective coupon than 6 weeks of penile enlargement treatments. Sounds like you got off easy, nola.

I'm with you, otter-e. nicolas léonard sadi carnot's "Leave the Grocery Shopping to the Women#1859467" deserves reading, re-reading, recognition, and perhaps a Best Free Verse In a Soon-to-Be-Deleted Post award. Gold star!

I'd just like to point out again the strange punctuation that was commented on in that thread and the coincidence of the glasses spammer. It just seems too great a coincidence to me and I wonder what sort of connection there might be. Does there exist somewhere, something like a spam typing pool?

One of the lovely things about the thread is the whole flavour of the incident. It wasn't just the hammering the guy(*) took, it was also about MeFi. It is like all the inmates starting running amok, discovered the warden was not about and took over the prison for a bit, putting in jabs and one liners as fast as they could before the warden shows up and ends the fun. And maybe, just maybe, the warden is dragging his feet a little and amusing himself and the inmates, and winking a little at the end with a What the hell, leaving the big grin for us to imagine ourselves.
Makes me feel kinda naughty for having read it, and a little square for having missed participating.
(*) There is some very small chance he is/was a brilliant troll. His capitalization and distinctive punctuation habits has the smell of a bit of fun. It would be one of the finest bit of trolling I have seen, though I have seen some superb ones on Usenet and one particular one concerning Brazillians on fark (I apologize for the f-word). Just tossing a theory out there.

Okay. In addition to writing poetry, Albert Goldbarth has a very nice collection of outer space toys.
