There was a metatalk thread from long ago, saying why do people post about kottke to the mefi main page so often. Then, as a joke, I turned just that thread into a clone of a post at kottke.org, so the person complaining that they saw too much kottke could literally see more kottke on that thread.

I took out the custom template code long ago, but the files still exist on the server.

I'm going to posit that at some very distant point in the past Matt was demonstrating some aspect of html/css usage and threw together a demonstration mock-up, and forgot to remove it. Can we get on with our psychic-flameout?

Back in the days when Jason Kottke was much discussed (praised, snarked about, generally referenced) and when he still participated here, when Metafilter was just transitioning from an A-listeriffic weblogger playground to the more general audience it has now, there was a single Metatalk thread that Matt styled a la Kottke, all orangey and stuff, as a joke. Those are presumably leftovers from that.

Yeah, the site is being super slow then super fast. Me and pb are scouring all the basic settings and logfiles trying to figure out what the hangup is.
