More from nobody on compatibility:
the marquee tag is interpreted very differently in different browsers. In firefox on a PC apparently the browser won't interpret two marquee tags on the same line, so an artificial linebreak is inserted. (thus april 20-22 are broken and the sandbox and loom are double-spaced). In explorer on a mac the height variable is interpreted differently (so the april 19th junk post before the sandbox post is broken and odinstream's post looks like just a line of numbers scrolling smoothly upward.)posted by carsonb at 5:58 PM on August 8, 2007
at work i've been using safari on a mac:
in safari on the mac a linebreak between two marquee instances doesn't introduce an additional space between each line, so the sandbox is more highly compressed and the loom feels much more like interlocking \/\/\/\/\/\/\'s. all the rest are single character-width marquees lined up next to each other. explorer on pc is closest. i'll have to test firefox on a mac next week.
Nobody knows what you're getting at here...
Then I'll be clear: nobody (user 19227) went on a months-long streak of posting these crazy marquee games back in 2005, jumping from thread to thread in MetaTalk. I thought it was cool.

Neat. I forgot about having done these. I was working a job (an animation job, in fact) with lots of at-the-office downtime that year. If I recall, I stopped because I started thinking that if they were discovered they'd just all get deleted and I'd be banned. And then a couple months later the marquee tag was removed. And then a few months after that I had moved on to jobs that actually had me working most of the day and I've never been as active on metafilter since.
It is sad that the marquee tag is gone.
