Neither religion nor politics should be mentioned at polite gatherings, nor on the sidebar.

What a delight! May I also add, ahem:
I am the very model of a modern Marxist-Leninist,
I'm anti-war and anti-God, and very anti-feminist;
My thinking's dialectical, my wisdom undebatable.
And yet I'm no ascetic - I'm always full of bonhomie
When lecturing to classes on the primitive economy;
And comrades all agree that they have never heard a smarter cuss
Explain the basic reasons for the slave revolt of Spartacus.

I'm not sure this matters but Mayor West might not be the author of it.

eek forgot a line! May G&S forgive me:
Ahem:
I am the very model of a modern Marxist-Leninist,
I'm anti-war and anti-God, and very anti-feminist;
My thinking's dialectical, my wisdom undebatable,
When I negate negations, they're undoubtedly negatable.
And yet I'm no ascetic - I'm always full of bonhomie

And comrades all agree that they have never heard a smarter cuss

Really, feel free to use the "fantastic" flag to nominate for sidebar. Otherwise, yeah, we're really unlikely to make politicsfilter jokes -- even if HILARIOUS -- into sidebar mentions.

Bravo! It stands proudly beside Tom Lehrer's 'Elements', the G&S version of 'Baby Got Back' and the entire catalog of Gilbert O'Sullivan as proud parodies of the Light Operatic.
And as an attack on Libertarianism, it's a Civic(-Minded) Light Opera!
So who is racing to immortalize it in mp3 format?

sexymofo, it may indeed matter, because while Mayor West may not have expected it to become so popular, it being copied from elewhere on the web puts it on (or over) the edge of plagiarism, copywrong or Intellectual Property Theft/Vandalism. But then, considering he stole his username from "Family Guy*", why should we be all that surprised?

Hi-larious cracks about Family Guy aside, he says right in the comment that he got it from Everything2.

In all fairness, at the beginning of the comment, he cites where he got it from.

Yeah. It was great, but it wasn't original. I did sing the whole damn thing to myself, though.
So, are we done here?

We can still debate the general merits of Gilbert and Sullivan parodies.
