Using music from music.mefi July 17, 2007 9:57 PM Subscribe
I want to use a song from Music.Mefi, but the creator (Vicarious) doesn't have an e-mail!!! Is there any way to contact said creator, or maybe the musicians could add a creative commons tag so others could use their work, and attribute appropriately?
I wanted to use the song in a video that I'm making.
The whois record for the website comes up blank. Try leaving a comment in the song post.

24 my arse. You were born in November 1965. That makes you 41. Cool that you want to use the song though.

There's really not much to do. You could always try dropping a brief note to foo@domainname.com and see if Vicarious checks wildcard mail, of course, or get your google on, but in general dropping a comment in the thread may be the best bet.
Also, a mod could drop a quick note to the email listed behind the scenes in his reg info, since it seems like a pretty benign "hey, heads up" sort of issue. But that's something that, even if it maybe totally did just happen in this case, should not be considered standard operating procedure, so don't get any ideas.

Generally speaking though we don't like to pass notes because it can often put one of us in the middle of someone else's issues. With something like this it's hard to see a way for the OP to take it the wrong way but with AskMe stuff, sometimes the problem can get hairy and complicated (i.e. "please send the OP a note to SEEK COUNSELING IMMEDIATELY" or "please tell the OP that I will send them money to help them out" or "please tell the OP _______________. Did you tell the OP ___________ for me???" that sort of thing.
I'd suggest leaving a note in the thread, having one of us drop the OP a note to tell him/her to check the thread and then leaving it be.

I think this would be a good time to suggest that music posts stay open much longer, if not indefinitely. It's a very different section of the site and I imagine OPs check their posts more regularly to see comments or get feedback when working on new material.

Another vote for what dobbs suggested. When I saw Olivia pop up on this week's favorites I opened it to see what new comments chococat was getting for it and I was surprised to see it is closed. My vote is for leaving the songs indefinitely open to comments.

hey, that's weird, I didn't even notice that.
Ya, they should stay open indefinitely, for sure.
Music is timeless, man.

I'm with the rest of the group here -- music posts should stay open (if not indefinitely, then like, 2 years).
