Where's that great parody of askme-as-life-helper? June 28, 2007 5:53 PM   Subscribe

A while back someone posted to meta a great little parody of the sort of sequence of questions we're all familiar with where someone uses askme to help them through absolutely every stage of their life. Where is it? I can't seem to find.

I think it's this orange swan comment.

Yeah, I'm glad it was linked here as I missed it the first time around.

[idle wish aloud that there were different favorites for "that was awesome" and "I might need to find this again in the future," which aren't always the same]

orange swan's comment was actually quoting my original... but yes, maxwelton's is much better!

It was my moment in the sun--a cosmic ray short-circuited my normal predictable snark and fumbly mealymouthedness to produce a work outside my normal oeuvre. (It's like a gallery featuring paintings of big-eyed children and unicorns having Wheat Fields with Cypresses absently hung in a corner.)

P.S. I think of that moment every day.

P.P.S. Those ads really don't work.

This is reminiscent of some of the AOL search log sequences; specifically, the first one on here. The difference being, this is presumably real.

P.P.S. Those ads really don't work.

A while back (in the Stone Age days before Match.com), I had this (probably not-so-original) idea to use an I Saw You ad as a date-phishing scheme. Normally, you see someone and then write the ad, describing the person you saw, right?

My idea was to write the ad first. It'd be a description of the person I would like to meet, and in theory, I'd get multiple hits on people who shared that description.

I never went through with it, but knowing that I am not a unique snowflake, I wondered how many of the ads were ginned up in this fashion. "I totally saw you ... yeah, yeah ... you were ... umm ... blonde, right ... that's it ... and you looked like ... umm ..."
