On the blue, it's a tad odd that "Popular" and "Popular Favorites" are different. I suggest they be combined into a single page which has both FPPs and comments, and also has the (7 days, 30 days, all time) option from the second link.

Differences:

"Popular" spans all sites, both comments and posts.
"Popular Favorites" is just MetaFilter, and is a filtered view of just the front page, so in other words, posts only. All the tabs on the front page of the site are filtered views of the front page posts.

Hmm. Isn't "popular" that which has been flagged as great, vs. "popular favorites" that which people have bookmarked? Not really the same.

Not if you're into having your expectations let down in the most miserable way. It's inevitably something you don't want to ponder over too much, 'cause it'll just end up being
"HI I'M ON METAFILTER AND I CAN OVERTHINK A PLATE OF BEANS"
or
"HI I'M WOZ AND METAFILTER CAN OVERTHINK ME"
or something equally sad and ironic.

I see your problem— the "popular" in "popular favorites" is a typo. It's meant to read "poplar favorites," and includes anything that's caught a tree's fancy.
