I've often thought the Metafilter Podcast could use a Glassing.

The ending was great. Thanks for the laugh, I really needed it. Is the whole episode going to be done like this or is this just some fun?

Now I want to see Matt and Ira in a cage match.
Wait, I've wanted to see that for years.

Well, along the lines of putting your tongue onto the iBook charger, I once played with a 220 volt fixture in Ireland. It had one contact on one end and another contact on another end of a long bulb which looked like a fluorescent, but was really just a long incandescent. Somehow I got my right hand on one contact and my left on the other, yes this is conduction right through the heart, and I hadn't even been drinking (I was 12, although I did get Guiness on that trip). The resulting jolt threw me across a bed and perhaps even knocked my out. After thanking God for leaving me on the planet, I am left with a healthy respect for electricity (there might have been other incidents which involved melting objects rather than personal shocks that contributed to this). I have eyed the iBook connector but I don't think I could ever put that on my tongue. Bully for you Matt. By the way, we are coming out with a new medicine and are looking for test volunteers.....

If you have no idea what This American Life is this sounds just like the usual podcast, only with better production values.

So I've been meaning to do this for about three weeks, since I saw Ira Glass give a talk. He came off as kind of weird because he walked around with an ipod and would actually play plinky music behind himself as he talked as if he was on the show. I was fascinated with his trademark delivery and I started doing impressions of him for friends, by thickening up my tongue and nerding up my voice a bit more. I need to keep working on it though.
Anyway, once I interviewed Jesse, I knew I had a perfect set of quotes for a TAL-style intro. Much to my chagrin though, once I had the idea, I found out on Friday that a comedy group had done a better job of the same joke (show 1, show 2) already.
So this was just something for shits and giggles, a one-off thing but once I was done with it I figured I'd share.

Matt, trust me (and I mean this in the very best way possible); you do not need to nerd your voice up any more.

I think they moved TAL from 1PM to Noon on Saturdays in Chicago so Ira wouldn't say "One o'Cock" anymore in the promos.

Hilarious. Or are you trying to get the Hodge's attention???
I'll work on my Sarah Vowell, just in case. Her vocal style would do the ladytastes story justice, I'm sure.

Fanamatastic. This is a great demonstration of how intentional the sound of a radio show is -- from vocal intonation to pacing to production style, you've got it down pat.
he walked around with an ipod and would actually play plinky music behind himself as he talked as if he was on the show.
Now, that's just scary. He has obviously made the soul transformation from man to product.
