Ridiculously long Headline/Titles result in ridiculously long "add to favorites" pop-ups. See here.

So it does.

..and?

I thought it might be a nice idea to abbreviate http addresses in popups that are longer than say, 100 characters, so as to look a little cleaner.

Related: Is the (escaped) quote mark supposed to be appear in the new URL scheme?

I keep waiting for the poster to note that she accidentally switched the description with the title, but oddly enough, nothing yet.

Huh? If I mouse over the add to favorites links, I get a small title tip that says "Save this post/comment as a favorite"

Try it with the DHTML titles.

Sorry for not being clear. Try mousing over the "add to favorites" in the thread window, not the "+" in the front page.

I noticed this too with the new URL scheme. It's not a big deal to me but some people might prefer truncated URLs.

By the way, the new URL scheme is awesome otherwise. It's so nice to mouse over a link and immediately know what thread it relates to.

hmm, maybe I should dump the nice titles. In Firefox without them enabled, mousing over Add to Favorites on the post shows a tooltip that says Save this post as a favorite and nothing else.

I would keep the nice titles, but maybe change them a bit to keep them from growing beyond a certain fixed width. The DHTML titles are the only reliable way to make the title tag not suck balls in Firefox, though it looks like the bug will finally be fixed in 3.0.

OK, I'm ready to give up. Is it four or five times I've pointed you at better, more configurable nicetitle-y solutions? Shorter: Dustin Diaz's sweet titles and q-tips. Google and enjoy. If nothing else, it's child's play to hack them to do what you'd like, including wrapping/truncation.
