Berlin meetup March 25, 2007 1:21 AM Subscribe
I know there have been several (unsuccessful?) attempts in the past, but is there any interest in a Berlin, Germany meetup?
I’m up for one, but I’ve been slacking on the going-to-bars part of life lately, so I’ll only suggest a time and a place if no-one else does.

I don't know where to go, having never been to Berlin before, but how about April 13th for the date? Maybe at 19:00?

Sounds good. I suggest, hmm, Habermeyer, Gärtnerstr. 6, 10245 Friedrichshain. Never been and am judging it from the web, so if anyone wants to suggest somewhere else, go for it.

I could make it if it were the 12th. I'll be there from noon on the 12th till 10.30 on the 13th, en route from Tallinn to Paris.

I'd be fine with doing it on the 12th, but I figured a Friday would be a safer bet. Anyway, Habermeyer looks like a good choice.

Hmm, I’m less fine with the 12th, but will try to make it if ends up being then. Unrelated to the date, I’ll be at Habermeyer tomorrow evening, so I’ll report back and suggest somewhere else in the event that it’s terrible.

I should have been clearer there; we should move the date of the meetup to the 12th, since Athenian will be around then. Am about to make a relevant MT post since how to reschedule doesn’t seem obvious.

Thanks for being flexible, Aidan Kehoe. It's very pleasingly random to get to a MeFi meetup in Berlin when I haven't made it to one in London yet.

Bernsteinglut, ja klar! :-)
Everyone else, Habermeyer’s décor nods heavily to Boogie Nights, which is well and good, but was kind of dead at 7.30PM Wednesday night. I’m sure Thursday will be better, and I’ll be there to at least ten anyway, but have no qualms about being late :-) .

As long as they serve beer, the place could be empty and decorated with the ugliest shag carpeting known to man and it would still be OK.

Hello from Riga. Can anyone give me some simple directions on how to get to the venue for a non-Berliner? I'll be staying at a hotel by the Ostbahnhof, and I'll probably have an all-day travel pass.
Any help appreciated.

athenian, take the S-Bahn eastwards to Warschauer Straße (one stop.) Leave the S-Bahn station, look for the signs to the U-Bahn station (they’re quite far apart), and walk the other way until you come to Kopernikusstraße (think of the Polish astronomer :-) and follow that street until you get to Gärtnerstraße. Habermeyer is quite close to the corner.
Also, print out a map from here, using 10245 as the PLZ (post code) and Gärtnerstr. 6 as the address, and making sure the map takes in Warschauer Straße S-Bahn station.

OK. Here's a different question, sorry for chopping and changing.
Unexpectedly, I'm going to see some relatives of mine in Słupsk (Pomerania) on the way to Berlin. To get to Berlin from there, I have to take a painful number of slow trains, ending up with one from somewhere called Angermünde.
The PKP timetable says that the train from Angermünde calls at Bernau b Berlin; Berlin Hbf; Berlin Potsdamer Platz; Barsikow; Berlin Lichterf. Ost; Blankenfelde (and then a lot of other places). If I take this train, and have to come straight to the meetup, where is the best place to change for Warschauer Straße? My guess from the map is Hbf, and then take the S9, S75 or the S5 - any confirmation or better advice very welcome.
Apologies for the sudden change of plan on my part, the story of which I'll tell over a beer.

According to BVG, it's a 13 minute trip on the S-Bahn from Berlin Hbf, which really isn't too bad.

A reminder to anyone reading their MyComments page—Berlin meetup tomorrow! I look like this, but I won’t have a camera with me.
Some Spaniard stole that one, me cago en su madre, in case you’re wondering.

I'll try to remember what you look like, but if you see a guy in a shirt that says SWANS on it, probably accompanied by a tall blonde woman, please give me a shout.
