I broke my FPP! March 14, 2007 1:33 AM Subscribe
So despite reading the MeFi Wiki and crunchland's profile, I managed to screw up my FPP ( this one ) and it now appears on the home page without a title.
Would one of the admins be kind enough to correct the link title of the post?
You may also suggest suitable means of atonement for this extremely n00b-ish screwup.
Jofus - actually I just finished my late evening chai :) .. I guess it's back to hitting F5 on MeFi and MeTa (wait, isn't that what I do anyway?)

Methinks the newbie doth protest too much. You're actually a mathowie sockpuppet testing cortex's new powers, not a mildly obsessive average geek at all! Admit it, you fiend!

Jessamyn - thank you for fixing my goof-up so quickly!
Also I have taken notes on the changes you made and will remember next time I try to make an FPP
cgc373 - Oh noes, I have been discovered! You cannot be allowed to let the world know, prepare to be converted!

The penalty for noobism is excoriation until flameout occurs. It's how we keep the MeFi brain-pool nice and stagnant, the way we like it.

testing cortex's new powers
Considering Jess was the one that fixed it, I'd say the electrodes aren't calibrated to be strong enough on the new moderator, eh?

I have a crippling addiction to sleep. Jess and her eastcoastery for the win. (Welcome home!)
your mildly obsessive average geek, for formatting issues that bear fixing but don't actually break a post or a thread, you're probably safe just tossing an email at some permutation of Matt and Jess and I explaining the issue so we know what to fix.
There's a long history of Metatalk threads calling out such minor issues, but there's nearly as long a history of people responding to such threads with "uh, couldn't you have handled this via email?" Minor format issues are usually not that big of a deal and don't generally require this kind of visibility, and ironically will probably net more excoriation than the original miniature fubar ever would, because we are insane people.
If the problem with your post or comment is obvious at first glance as well (e.g. a runaway tag), you can probably just flag it as "other" and leave it at that—one of us will see it and fix it.

cortex, couldn't you have communicated that piece of advice to your mildly obsessive average geek via email, or just flagged his comment as "should have handled via email"?

Heh.
(Speaking of: you, over there, the guy who flagged a "free jazz" post as noise, and a comment that says "no offense" as offensive content, and a post about trainwrecks as derail: yes, yes. You're very clever. Now quit it.)

Yes. I'll see you stand tall before the man for this! 2 or 3 lashes with a wet mom joke.

cortex - my apologies. I guess I panicked a little when I realized I had screwed it up and posted in MeTa.
One request - if this is a common problem, might perhaps an addition to the FAQ or MeFi Wiki a good idea?
In any case, I will treat this thread as my trial by fire/indoctrination ritual into MeFi :)

This is not a trial by fire. Not by a long shot.

Dammit why do I keep swallowing my verbs >_< /sup>
flapjax at midnite: I hope never to make comments/FPPs that bring down the full wrath of the hive mind.. I've been lurking on MeFi for a while now and I *think* I know what it looks like (shudder)>

With that kind of respect and knowledge of this place I'll bet you won't ymoag. :) Most people seem to bring down the wrath when they stubble around not giving a damn about the site they post to.
