AskMe posting limits? March 1, 2007 5:34 AM   Subscribe

Ok, so now that February is over, what happens to the AskMe posting limits?

I really don't care because I hardly use AskMe, but someone was bound to ask soon. I just wanted to ask it to get it out of the way.

You can already post more than one question every two weeks if your first one contains some kind of cute play on "[more inside]".

Or you can piggyback on other people's questions like this: hey, now that we are on the subject of February ending, are you RPM guys going to post all of your songs in Music?

New rule: You're allowed to complain about posting limits to cortex instead of jessamyn.

Why so quick on the trigger? You asked this question at 5:30 AM where mathowie is.

I submit that with jessamyn out of town for two weeks, and given jessamyn's extensive involvement in AskMe, we all wait two weeks and ask this question again, once she's returned to help sort out the situation.

Q: Why so quick on the trigger?

A: to get it out of the way.

So far out of the way, in fact, that somebody who does care about the 2 week posting limit is bound to miss it and ask again in a few hours/days.

How dare you sully the proceedings of National Pig Day. Celebrate, citizen!

If you want to ask more questions, you have to sing them and post it to Music.

"Are we nearly there yet? Are we nearly there yet? Are we nearly there yet? Are we nearly there yet?"

We'll change them to something else when jessamyn gets back. For the sake of data collection, I'd love to do one month where you can post one question per day if you wanted to, just to see what it does to the quality, searchability, and work load.

I realized something the other day when talking about it -- I see why "2 weeks" is such a problem. When you think about pretty much any sort of schedule we keep in our heads for deadlines or due dates, we're likely all familiar with timelines in the range of "today, by tomorrow, and by next week".

When I think about the last thirty years of my life, when I hold a date in my head for something I need to remember, it's rarely over a week (stuff months away from now I write down instead). But "two weeks" doesn't really fit into any scope I'm used to.

It's not an unreasonable amount of time to wait between questions, it's just an unreasonable amount of time to make humans have to remember. It's a foreign concept, isn't it?

I hope we can figure out a way to make one-per-week work and I'd like to try shorter just to see if the site descends into total chaos at that point.

Also, keep in mind if this is going to be yet another 200+ comment monster, it will suck my programming time today. I had a lot of big plans for today, but if I have to read yet another gazillion posts on this all day long, it will seriously hinder me getting any work done.

We've gone over this so many times over and over and over again, I'm pleading with you all to keep your replies to a minimum on this. Unless there's something really important about doing this discussion for the tenth time in the past three months, I'd rather close it, because nothing can change until jessamyn gets back.

Then, just close it Matt. We will hold our breathes until Jessamyn comes back. If cortex wants to write a sad love song about this, please do!!
