Any Toronto mefites going to Cory Doctorow's book signing tonight?
I'll be there as not Matt Haughey.

Doctorow has a new book out? I loved Adventures of Auggie March.
Oh, wait. Cory Doctorow? No idea who that is...

I'd go if I could punch him in the nuts. Do they allow that?

Meh. It's mere blocks from where I sit this very minute, but I dunno. He's no Larry Niven. But mostly I've been working late all week and need to be home more. But DemoCamp 12 is on Monday - anyone else going there?

We, as a community, need to come together and get serious about finding a solution to nerd-on-nerd crime.

No crime here. I'm a fan. I just don't happen to live anywhere near Toronto, so I'm forced to attend through magic realism.

I was going to take the subway there, but some jerkoff remixed all the maps so I can't figure out how the hell to get there.

I'd go if I could pay for my copy in whuffie.
And if I had any whuffie. And a teleporter.

I wonder if he would autographed a dot-matrix print out of one of his books?

Actual transcript:
ME: If there were a button in front of you that would render Cory Doctorow sterile, would you push it?
MY FRIEND: Not if doing so means I miss out on a later button that would torture and kill him.

The jealousbitternerdenvy factor is high in this thread. Then again, I wish I made eleventy jillion dollars a month from my website, too.

I actually like Doctorow. His books are on my portable and on my thumbdrive. I think I might like him nearly as much as he annoys the everlasting shit out of me.

Not really envy, more pure, unadulterated disdain for his huge, unadulterated ego.

Hmmph. Never noticed that about him, but then I've never paid all that much attention.
I think he's a damn good writer; if he swings a big ego stick, well, at least he's got the skills to back that thing up.

I don't know that Cory has a huge ego. It only seems that way because he shamelessly self-promote himself (in the third-person no less) at every possible opportunity.
Boingboing doesn't have a rule about self-linking.

I thought self-promotion was just an accepted part of being a successful freelancy type individual like that.

There are plenty of people I am bitterly jealous of. I have no problem admitting it. Cory Doctorow is not one of these people.
Trust me, I am very, very, glad that I am not Cory Doctorow, no matter how many hits his website gets.

I'm jealous of Cory. I wish I was so confident of my awesomeness that I could mention it every time I post on my blog.

He's not that good of a writer. All of his main charachters are clearly supposed to be him — which wouldn't be a big deal if his main charachters weren't paranoid and delusional douchebags that hurt everyone around them. That's just bizarre.
