Please fix my HTML mistake. January 26, 2007 11:56 AM Subscribe
I think I broke this thread with a malformed tag. Please hope me?
Okay, now it looks really weird; my words are coming out of bugbread's mouth.

For the record, my comment wasn't "Awesome. Reminded me of". That's armage's comment, which had a malformed tag that apparently got closed at the end of my comment, so the next line became "posted by bugbread". But if you mouse over "posted by", you can see all the html that got subsumed!

Cortex, was that a Dark Knight mutant quote, or is "balls nasty" an actual phrase somewhere?
Also, who wants to start the MeTa pointing out Plutor's breaking of this thread with malformed html?

This thread was a great way to cover up for the fact that bugbread is your sock puppet and you forgot to switch logins, armage

jessamyn, look at bugbread's comment in the middle of the page, right below this comment.

Nope, still broken. If you look at the html, after hal9k's comment is a comment by armage that starts "Awesome. Reminded me of". This is followed by a link to Matrix Ping Pong, but there's a mismatched quote thing in there, rendering the rest of armage's comment invisible, as well as my comment, and then returning to "posted by bugbread".
That is, it should say:
blah blah blah
by armage
Halb halb halb
by bugbread
But instead the middle is missing, so it says:
blah blah
by bugbread

This metatalk thread is also busted the same way, due to the impish nature of Plutor.
(Do you use Firefox, jessamyn? It uses color coded html display (maybe other browsers do too, I dunno), and if you do "show page source", you'll see a big block of red html text in the middle, which is the stuff that's missing. Look for an extra quotation mark near the start of that red text, and that's the problem.)

That's really bizarre, and hard to spot.

Straight up Dark Knight quote, bugbread. Though of all the obnoxious made-up "with-it teen slang" in the book, that phrase seems like it'd have the most real world deployability.

You got the one in that thread, but there's still one in this one, right below this comment. I'm not sure what harm they do, if any.

Mostly they just fuck up screenscrapers when mefi dorks try to do analysis of the archives.
At least that's what a guy told me.
