NYC Meetup

Short notice NYC MeetUp? I'm holidaying in Manhattan from the 26th to the 6th, and I'd love to play the London Mefi Ambassador, and rendezvous with a few native New Yoikers.

Has there ever been a meetup at The Ginger Man? It's not in a very hip hood - 36th near 5th - but it's spacious with a couchy back room and has a very nice relaxed vibe. And lots of interesting beers for those who like that sort of thing.

I'm here, Lower East Side, in a lovely apartment.

I like bars... pretty much generally. But not in an 'I have a problem' sort of way. Live music is always nice, though I'm there for the company rather than to watch a gig. And, I dunno, decent beer? Jack Daniels? That's probably my entire list of requirements.

Oh, and everyone likes food.

I think the Ginger Man was the location of my famous ass-shot, no? Near where armoured-ant is staying is the Magician and Motor City, both of which are decent, the former being near cupcakes and the latter being a great bar to which one must arrive early.

After the first is a lot harder for me, personally. Of course we should do it whenever is best for everyone, but I think the only other weekend night armoured ant will be here is Friday, 1/6.

Since I can't make it to the Grand Rapids (rules!!!) meetup, this'll have to do. Sigh.

I'm kidding about the attitude; 'tis been awhile since I've done the meetup thing. I'll stay out of the logistics of the matter.

I would be more than happy to meet with people since I'm a Christmas orphan with most folks I know out of town, but Dec. 30 or the 31 would not work for me since people are rushing back to party for New Year's. Just my two cents.

It's right down the street from where AA is staying. They've got buck-fifty PBRs . . .

Oh, no. Wait a minute. Most of the people who would be attending this are actually of the legal drinking age. And the bar is a little cramped.

Argh. It'll have to be pre-1st, then, since I fly late on Friday 5th night/early Saturday 6th morning.

Also, the drinks may be smaller, but they are cheaper and the girls (or boys) will be way into your accent, so I suppose it's a wash. And look how popular you are already.

I operate according to a philosophy that makes things harder for Queensians at any time possible. Honestly, the Ginger Man is okay if dull. Motor City and Welcome to the Johnsons are more entertaining as bars go, but to get seats going around 6 or so is probably recommended. Therefore, I would vote 6 at Welcome . . .

Also, I may be able to give you New Year's leads later in the week, so drop an email.

I see a review that calls Welcome to the Johnsons "a theme bar for kids too cool for theme bars." Being part of that august body myself, I think that sounds just fine.
