Music donations October 31, 2006 10:55 PM Subscribe
I would like to see a mechanism whereby MetaFilter Musicians were encouraged to accept donations (PayPal links?) and listeners were encouraged to donate. I would far rather donate to my favorite artists here than prop up Sony Corp.
Not to be a nag, but what's the status on the mefi CD anyways?

Well, heck. Why stop at musicians? Why don't we all get links to paypal on our profile pages, and then we can give a nickle or a quarter or a dollar to our favorite posters? loquacious has to eat, after all.

Look at their profiles and follow their URLs; you'll often find an opportunity to enrich the artists.

What bob said. I'll make an announcement in the next couple days—I'm currently waiting for the final final point-of-no-return this-is-literally-being-stamped-out-by-our-robots email from the duplication firm, with whom I've been exchanging enthusiastic emails for the last three business days.
*vibrates, faints*

I don't think an official Give Money mechanism is a good idea—crunchland paints the proper dystopian parody.
Musicians can include a link to their CDs and external donate-link-laden webspace in their profiles, I reckon. And the possibility of a supplementary Music subprofile has come up before, though I don't think Matt ever really bit.

hey, what if instead of setting a new paypal link we use the one already in place and buy the MetaFilter Musicians sockpuppets?
