Los Angeles Meetup? October 30, 2006 9:32 AM Subscribe
Los Angeles Meetup? Again? ALREADY? Our illustrious Admin Jessamyn is in town and staying in the Silverlake/Los Feliz area (carless). Anyone up for a quick get together round there this Sunday (the 5th), or failing that, the Monday (11/6) or Tuesday (11/7) immediately after - somewhere in that neighborhood would be optimal.
Sunday would be best for me too. Can anyone recommend a bar in the area? I know a few restaurants, but they don't work for larger gatherings...

Sunday's good for me, too. For Los Feliz bars, there's the Rustic Inn and the Drawing Room -- when I used to live n the neighborhood, they used to be good on non-weekend evenings for not being very crowded, but I get the sense they're more crowded all the time now.
Alternatively, the Roost (just up Los Feliz Blvd on the edge of Glendale) is almost never crowded and it's got a good genuine divey atmosphere (cheaper drinks -- cash only!/popcorn machine/garrolous regulars/weird jukebox/low percentage of Silverlake hipsters). Since Jess is sans auto, I'd volunteer to pick her up.

I'm there. This means I can't procrastinate & wait to do all of my work on Sunday night. It's a good reason to not procrastinate. Yay!

Yay, that sounds great. I may or my not bring my law-prof-friend-since-junior-high depending on what her plans are (and if she goes, she can drive but I don't want to bet on it). Looking forward to it!

I do like The Roost... Though I lived a mile or two away for a bit, I don't know that side of the 5 all that well. Is there a burger joint or moderately good taqueria nearby?

apparently not within walking distance. (I asked a friend who lives down the street.)

yay! mandyman was my favorite non-mefite at the last meeting. Followed by the waiter, but only because he kept bringing me alcohol.

I think my favorite non-mefite was the old guy in the polyester shirt with it unbuttoned down to. . .Well, it was way too far. Him or the woman reading the Nora Roberts book in between her trips to the dance floor.

Oh, hey. If we don't know what any of the other mefites actually look like, how do we identify each other?

Some of them will look like the people from this set of photos. I've found that it's generally not hard to pick out the MetaFilter table.

Another Riversider. Cool.
I'm in a few of those pictures, & I guarantee I won't look any different hair or glasses-wise. I also look like I'm 16 years old, so I won't be hard to spot.

Okay, that'll work.
Four-Eyed Girl-Did you teach a syllabus-writing TA training course at UCR a few weeks ago? You look like the person who did, if not. Anyhoo, see you all Sunday.

Yes, I did! I knew someone from UCR would eventually spot me on the 'net.
