Vancouver MeFites unite!
Me an' my lovely girlfriend (/username/holyrood) will be in Vancouver from the 18th through the 20th, attending a boring conference during the day. At night, perhaps a meetup?

Boo, I'm in a show at nights from the 17th through the 21st. Maybe it it goes late enough I can join y'all. I was just thinking recently I'd love to go to another meetup.

I'm gonna be at the Hyatt Regency at 655 Burrard. I have no idea if that's downtown or not.

And I'll actually be there through the 22nd, it looks like. Say yay for not booking your own flight and being at the mercy of secretarial vagaries!

Good news! We're discussing October 18-22, so you can come after all.
Maybe you're confusing this with the New York meetup.

Nope, timeistight, I'm only driving up to Canada once that month, sorry. (I live in Seattle.)

Aww...
Well, sportsfans, I tell you what— I don't know a damned thing about Vancouver other than it's Canadian, has the grizzlies, and is reknowned for great pot (and I suppose I'll have to learn to score on the street while I'm there, paying in funny coins), so I'm probably not the best for the when/where. Or at least the where.
Thursday and Friday nights will probably be best for me, though I'd be up for Wednesday too.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but the Grizzlies moved to Memphis in 2001.
Can we agree on Thursday October 19th? I'm always a fan of West End meetups, but anywhere downtown is okay.

Thursday is the one night I'm unavailable, though I don't know that plans should change on my account, since I haven't made the last two meets (though the first absence was due to my cat - not my schedule).

I've said I'd go to every one that was posted since I moved here nearly a year and a half ago, and I have failed to go to any. I AM going this time, and you have full license to thwap me in the testicles with a 2x4 should I fail to attend.
My favourite hangouts are all on Main St, apart from Subeez in Yaletown and the Irish Heather in Gastown, but, really, I'm up for anywhere.
I'm also a fan of relatively quiet places. Again, I'd recommend any of Foundation/Habit/The Whip/ on Main for places with good food, nice beer and good (yet quiet-ish) music.

Yeah but those places are all in Surrey. By which I mean, across a bridge from downtown or east of main (although The Whip does have good beer - the black plague stout is a favourite).
Subeez is a decent standby, but needs a reservation for a group. Irish Heather is usually quite good, but once again needs a reservation as it can get crowded.
I'm a fan of The Mill as a nice place to take out of towners. It's close to the Hyatt and has a nice view of the seawall/water. Also decent for large groups sitting around is Jupiter lounge, as they're got a nice heated patio that isn't usually too crowded on a thursday. Section(3) in Yaletown is pretty good for a group on a thursday as well - prices are a bit steeper, cuz it's Yaletown, but the food's nice.

The Black Frog also has a pretty good view; it's just inside gastown down at the very bottom of Cambie street.

They might be a little more out of the way - but it only takes 10 to 15 minutes to get back downtown afterwards - and they're often less crowded than the downtown pubs, usually because of people being unwilling to trek out to...errr....Surrey.
Anyway, I'm fine with wherever - The Black Frog is good too.

If I recall my last Black Frog experience, it had an excellent view of an old lady screaming and flailing her arms while dancing naked. I would definitely repeat that experience - put me down as a vote for the Black Frog.

Sounds good to me. Also, if anyone happens to be going to the Sufjan Stevens concert on the 14th, I'm the only one of my gang to get a ticket in time, so if anyone wants to hang out then, that'd be good too. Anyway - count me in.

All I ask is that we don't pick an extremely loud place to meet. The last few times I've gotten together with people I only know online I couldn't make out what they were saying and therefore looked like a dolt.
Are you going to be downtown or somewhere else?
