Deletion emails? September 22, 2006 9:01 AM Subscribe
My FPP was deleted (not complaining; I agree with the reasoning). Aren't I supposed to get an email about this? I didn't. Forgive me if that's not the policy. I thought it was.
I didn't make an FPP, nor did it get deleted. I did not receive an email. The system works!

I've never gotten an email when my FPPs have been deleted.
Why should you anyway? I assume you don't just post and run, you'll figure it out when it goes away.

I think Jess might send you an email if she deletes your comments, and Matt is less likely to do it, period. I don't think there's a set policy, in any case.

I recall jessamyn say to someone the other day that she hadn't emailed because she thought they had been around long enough that they knew the drill, kind of thing. So it's more arbitrary than policy I should think.

We usually email new users. It takes time and it's not like we have templates for this, it's all done by hand.
I think jessamyn figured you could figure it out (and you agree, so I don't know if there's any problem here).

I'll reserve comment about a 1-link FPP to the NYTimes, because the Latin version does sound pretty cool, but the NY Times does seem to be acting a bit buggy today. About a third of the links I've clicked on have given me some guff.

grumblebee, next time take a screenshot so we can see what it looked like before they fixed it.

i haven't always gotten an email, either ... the reason is usually stated fairly clearly on the page ... i don't think it's necessary to get an email

Thanks, Matt. By the way, I wasn't upset that I didn't get an email. I thought maybe the email thing was automated (it certainly could be), and since I didn't get one, I was alerting you to a possible bug (see the category for this post).
As for my silly post: an NYTimes article was filled with lorem ipsum text instead of the article text. Since many members here are designers, I thought they'd get a kick out of it. Alas, the Times found their error and corrected it, ruining my post.

I usually email people when I remove their posts from AskMe if I think they were new and/or unclear on the concept. Sometimes a new user posts something that's borderline in AskMe and I'll email them to see if we can fix it. The same goes for newer members with AskMe comments and sometimes newer members with FPPs. But yeah, it's not automated and takes a while so if I think it will be obvious or understood, I don't do it.
Since the thing you linked to was a web error that no longer was an error, it made no sense anymore and was unlikely to fix itself. If you see something like this in the future, including a screenshot in a comment inside, might keep the post alive.

FTR: I've only received emails for deleted Ask posts, not posts in the blue. And boy have I had a lot of posts deleted from the blue. ('cause I'm an idjiot and they were doubles or stupid, mostly.)
