Ponyfilter: would it be possible to allow us to view only the "favorited" comments in a long thread? Ditto viewing only the answers marked "best" in AskMe threads?
(Well, yes, of course it'd be possible. What I'm really asking is whether there's any chance of it happening.)

There are other more useful possible features that should, if there is any justice in the world, take priority over that. For instance, displaying all the comments sorted in alphabetical order, and displaying only comments containing an odd number of words.

Hey, we could generalize this... let's let each comment have a score from -1 to 5 based upon ratings (or <fingerquotes>moderations</fingerquotes>) by users. Then you could select a threshold that would be applied to the comment view, so that you could filter out all the crap.

What we need is to allow folks to script custom UI's via an API. Expose the entire database (on a dynamically metered timeshare basis) via hooks and let people process the raw data according to whatever whim they choose.

i'm still not sure why it isn't like that already.

It seems like the sort of thing a greasemonkey script could do pretty easily, no?You're making the unwarranted assumption that I can differentiate between my rear end and a hole in the ground when it comes to this tubular interweb "code" "hacking" stuff.
Although I have GreaseMonkey, my Stupid is vast.
This "greased monkey", it vibrates?

Alternatively, you could read the threads (and comments) that interest you and decide for yourself.
