DC Meetup August 1, 2006 9:16 AM Subscribe
Jessamyn will be in DC this weekend, so I believe a meetup is in order. I'm thinking the ultra-hip Palace of Wonders, say, 2:00 on Sunday. Any takers?
Sounds like fun -- I will come if I can!

the possibility exists that I'll be in DC at that time; if I am, I will come by too. I was originally meant to be there today, though, so take with sodium chloride.

For sure! I didn't think I'd be around, but it turns out I will.

I've heard stuff about Palace of Wonders; that should be fun to check out. How does one get there?
And, when you say 2:00... that's PM, right?

2:00 PM, yes!
We'll likely be taking the bus and walking a bit. The venue is at 1210 H Street, NE, about a mile from either Union Station or the new New York Avenue station. However, those of us who know DC know that those aren't the most pleasant walking routes.

I'm in DC and I'd love to hit up a MeFi meetup (I also love to rhyme). Damn, if that isn't in the middle of nowhere, but I'll find a way in the 100 degree heat to make it (uphill, both ways, etc).
I've never heard of the Palace of Wonders, so this should be fun.

Yay, looking forward to it. I'm going to be in town most of the week too so please let me know if anything else interesting is going on that week.

Is that somewhere one would want to park a car? I'm going to be going from MD to VA that day in a car, so public transportation won't make much sense for me.

Damn, almost makes me wish I was still in DC. I'd love to see Jessamyn.

I have never, ever heard of Palace of Wonders. It may be worth stopping by just to see it. (Oh, and Jessamyn, too.) I'll try to make it.
(Semi-related question: anyone ever been to the Red and the Black, in that neighborhood?)

Depends on the car, I suppose, but I wouldn't give it a second thought, especially since it'll be in the daytime.

Arco, that's cool. I've never heard of that bar. It's amazing the things you learn about when you leave North West!

Looks like we're on! I'm the maniacal-looking guy on the left in this picture (I'm also 6'5", so I'm easy to pick out in a crowd), this is my wife, and you probably already know what Jessamyn looks like.

Groovy, al (may I call you al?). That photo led me to others, which led me to this one. How the hell did I miss my (only, to my knowledge) MeFi shout out?!?

I look out for you guys, as my flickr photo I am able to show you is one of my cat, not me. And I won't be bringing the cat.
What is the best way to get there? I'd probably rather take the metro if there is a stop near Palace of Wonders. Their website wasn't very helpful in the directions/metro stop department. I'll be coming from Sterling and I am not sure which station is closest to me, but I'll figure that out. Would driving into the city be easier?

It's not really near a Metro, no. You could Metro then bus or cab the rest of the way, though. We've found a bus route that will deliver us right to the door, at the appointed hour, no less.

MrMoonPie, which bus line goes to the front door? Does it go from anywhere in particular or from the Metro stop?

The X2, Inkoate, running between the Minnesota Avenue and the McPherson Square stops. The schedule is available in pdf. I used the trip planner on the Metro site to find it.

I'm gonna try to make it. I have a birthday thing to go to (Saturday's my birthday!), but that's at 3:30 or so in Maryland. We'll see.
I definitely wanna do stuff with mefites again. :)

I'm totally going, I'll probably just bike there. I'd heard of the Palace of Wonders before, but never been — I had assumed it went under a long time ago.

tittergrrl, don't know if you noticed, or if your B-day party is just on Sunday instead of your birthday, or if you just think you'll still be hungover from the party :), but the meetup is Sunday, not Saturday.
