Posts that don't start with a link July 30, 2006 9:00 PM Subscribe
Quick question - this is something I haven't been able to figure out. How do I post an FPP where the first words are not a link, such as this recent one by TheWig? Every time I try to leave the URL blank, I get a warning and a request to "please correct this".
Am I just missing something? Forgive me if this is a hopelessly stupid question.

You are forgiven.

I actually had the same question a couple weeks ago for my first front page post but didn't ask, since it is answered somewheres on the metafilter wiki, I think. It might be useful to somewhere have more explicit instructions on the different ways you can set up a post. I don't remember where I read about the method described by Steven C. Den Beste. Maybe it is obvious to most people, but the nerve wrackingness of writing a new post on the illustrious metafilter can cause one to draw blanks sometimes.

Also, I am going to take the time to claim "Kraftmatic Adjustable Cheese" as my long lost metafilter cousin. Or maybe long lost archenemies. Or both.
Lemme decide on which is more interesting.

Remind me, when did the Anal Catholic Church split away from Rome? So many schisms, it's hard to keep track of them all.

I just swiped SDB's helpful explanation and added it to the "Anatomy of a Front Page Post" on my user page. Yoink!

It was during the "Spelling Bee Schism" for using a "g" or a "j" to spell "jism".
