Hey, what's the deal with the MetaFilter Compilation CD? July 14, 2006 4:15 AM Subscribe
Hey, what's the deal with the MetaFilter Compilation CD? I ordered a couple of copies, but it's been many a moon since I heard anyone even mention it.
I'll let cortext and interrobang fill in the specifics, but it's been mastered and sent to him and I think we're waiting on lawyering and album art.

1. Mastering is finished. I have a couple of CD masters sitting in my apartment, and digital backups thereof in a couple of safe places for redundancy. The disc sounds faboo; turtlegirl did a great job with what was, in terms of levels and eq, an extremely motley crew of recordings.
2. Lawyering: mefite anathema has been assembling and, more recently, distributing a (blessedly pithy) licensing agreement covering use and rights and so forth for the songs included on the compilation. Those need to get out, get settled (a couple of contributors have had questions so far), and get back in before I'm comfortable going to press—spending upwards of a grand of other people's money on CDs that turn out to be in some way problematic would be pretty much the worst-case scenario. So this is effectively our bottleneck.
3. Art: interrobang knows all the dark secrets on this. I've seen intermediate stuff as of a couple weeks ago, and it looks fantastic; he's got liner notes and hopefully has gotten done or close to done formatting and rendering all that o'er the CD art.
I really need to update the meficomp site with all of this info and related detail, but I can't do so from work (no sshing to my linux boxen) and it's been an exhausting couple weeks. Apologies for the relative radio silence—be assured that however much you may hate waiting, I hate it more. I'll try to get more info up soon.

I'm still working on the art. Should be done in the next couple of weeks.
